I'm getting ready to replace the front brake pads, could anybody please explain the diferences between regular pads and kevlar? wich one will leave less residue, and will I need a special tool to do it myself? (I've done my prelude's, corolla's, and a mitsu galant) I have 100k miles, so I'm also guessing the rotors too will need replacement, is this really nessesary? is it any harder to do?thanks
-Marco

Try the EBC green pads from Tire Rack, You won’t be disappointed. They also sell rotors from Ebc; and they are top quality. Do not settle for the less expensive rotors; you would not be happy in a short time. The pads don’t leave much dust at all and are easy to get bedded in. If you chose to do the labor, just take your time. They are not any harder than other cars. You will even find the bolts are large and don’t strip easy.

I second the EBC pads from Tirerack (EBC 6000) - better than gen-u-whine IMHO. I have them front and rear. No dust or noise and they keep the rotors very smooth.

DAP (www.dap-inc.com) sells kevlar pads for around $60 per axle (EBC Reg 90). They seem to make less dust and certainly stop the truck easier.

Just one question on the Kevlar pads- I thought I heard someone say that they might not break quite as well as regular pads until they get warmed up? Is that true, and even if it is, with the way my Rover's break pads always squeel going down the road, won't that get 'em hot anyway?

The Ebc pads work better from the start and clear the water much better. Stopping power is much enhanced; I would say 20% better. The rotors clean the water away one hundred times better.

Spec for minimum rotor thickness is 12mm (a hair less that a half inch)on a D1. Unless of course the rotors are damaged.

I use Ferodo brakes, no squeal and they stop just fine.
