Those who have tinted windows, what # tint did you use? I have a '97 with factory tint and will be having them tinted. I do not want it so dark I can not see. I was thinking about #35 all the way around and use the high reflective type on the sun roofs. Does this sound right or think it will be to dark still? |

You also might want to check your DOT regulations. Some states allow things darker than others. |

What color is you vehicle. I have a black 97' with 35% on driver and pass. and limo from the back seats back. i like it. it sure helps to cool the car in the summer and protects my leather seats. go tp photo gallery and look at my pics. i would get someone to do it for you. i paid $200 for all. |

Do like Robin says, I have the exact setup on my 97 disco. Don't be a tight ass and do it yourself, this is definitely a professionals job, unless you want it to look like shit, which I doubt. |

I have 35% in front and 20% in back. Looks nice without being too "ghetto Escalade" dark. |

HAVE A PROFESSIONAL do it! Typically people go lighter on the front windows and darker in the back. As was said, DO check with your local laws. Also, if you wear sunglasses (especially prescription ones) check if they are polarized. If they are, don't get the front tint polarized too. It can screw with your vision. |

Local law here permits 35% (unless you are a local in which you can limo tint the entire car - windshield and all!). I got 35% all round and it is great. Do NOT try it yourself. It will most likely look like crap and last less than it takes to crap! SandMan |

Thanks all, here in TX you can tint D/P front doors to 35 and as dark as you want in the back. You can not what so ever tint the wind shield except for the normal strip at the top(3"-4"). I also would not think of doing this myself, here I will spend the money to have a pro do it. That way if I do not like it I can take it back. |

NC allows 35% up front and as dark as 5% in the back. The last thing a Disco needs is the visor tint - that'd only leave four or five usable inches to see those stoplights! e |

Scott, I have a 97 white D1 as well. I have 35% on the front, and 5% all around the back. I left the alpine windows w/ no tint to allow some light in. Personally I love the way it looks, and functions. |

sounds like i will be driving from nor cal to so cal to get the tinting. in san fran bay area everyone i have called wants 300 to 450 dollars to do all the windows excluding sun roofs and front windshield. that is outrageous. Im currently in so cal working and i foud several reputable shops that will do it for 189 dollars or less. if anyone knows of good place or a good person that can tint windows for much less than 400 dollars in the san fran bay area let me know. cheers all |

Eduardo, and others in So Cal: Here is my shameless plug for a shop called Vicelli's, located in the city of Alhambra on Valley Blvd. just a couple blocks West of Atlantic. Half the shop does stereo and the other half does tint. They have done a total of four cars for me, including my Range Rover and Disco. They have a 1 year warranty on the tint and do a super job. Best of all, it was only about $150 to do every window on the Disco INCLUDING both sun roofs! Unreal. They told me it would be difficult but not impossible to tint the alpine windows partly because of the shape and because I have rear air, so the plastic "inner" window on the driver's side would need to be removed, necessitating more labor and more trouble than it was worth since only Bigfoot can see into those windows! You may want to go for a darker tint at the rear because the light coming in from the untinted alpine windows will lessen the tint effect somewhat. All in all this was far and away cheaper than anything I have found in SF. Bring cash and be prepared to leave your car for an entire day. It is best to call for an appointment. I don't have the phone number handy, but they should not be too hard to find. |
