I found this list of filters on the LR parts site, but nothing specific about filters for syn or mineral - is there no difference at all? https://www.lrcparts.com/search.php |

Fram filters are not the greatestbut not the worst. See link below: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html And check out: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters.html If you are a true nit-noid you may get something out of it. If not, use the cheap filter and change it often. I use Amsoil filters and oil but then again, I sell the stuff! Dave Smith www.JavelinaRacing.com |

I use 10W30 synthetic and a Genuine filter. I change the filter every 2K miles and the oil at 4K. I could probably go longer on the oil but I like this system. |

A friend of mine just put on a serviceable type filter on his car. He claims that regular oil filters have a bypass valve that lets dirty oil flow past the filtering element hence only filtering a portion of the oil while the rest gets bypassed. The new one does not have a bypass and claims to be able to handle and filter all the oil that passes through it. It's supposed to last longer too...around 9,000 miles before changing the element. I don't know if I believe that though. I can't remember the name of it off hand. It's one of those racing type remote filters that have a spin on adaptor and -AN fittings with braided lines. He paid around $80-$90 for it. The replacement elements are $4-5. The replacement element is accessed through the top of the housing through a lid held on by 4 allens. Sounded kind of interesting. Anyone ever use something like this on a vehicle? I'll have to ask him again who the manufacturer is. |

That's probably a Mecca filter (now Canton/Mecca). Probably the best filter made but worth the extra $?? http://www.cmfilters.com A good quality replacable spin-on, good quality synth oil, and replace both at 3-4K miles is all you really need IMHO. |
