Still having headliner woes, and wondering if it is possible to scrape off the textile lining and spray the headliner board with Rhino-lining or Line-X or whatnot? I've talked with a shop who is willing to do it, but they admitted it would be an experiment on their part. thoughts?
Thanks

The guy at the shop I work with didn't seem to think that heat would be the problem...he was more concerned that it would make it really dark inside the vehicle. I dont' see where that would be a problem though.

Also would the spray be too heavy or excessively heavy for the headliner to hold. That would be my only concern but otherwise it sounds pretty cool.

as far as it being dark inside the vehicle, I've been in cars with black headliners and it is not really a problem

It can be done. The biggest expense is the time to "tape off" the parts you don't want sprayed. Also for the noise factor you may want to choose the liner that stays "soft".

I was just thinking about the weight of the rhino spray added to the headliner that it will get sprayed to and if it will sag at all with the mounting points already there. I dont know how thick they were planning on spraying it on but it could weigh more than what is ussually up there and i was wondering if it would sag at all.

Miss read the post. Sorry Nick, didnt realize he was going to spray onto the headliner. Why dont you just spray directly onto the inside of the roof if your going to do something like that. Just attach tubing or something to route all the wires though, like when they fill a boat's hull with foam. Or you could just buy a Discovery headliner and be done with it. What kind of "woes" are you having?

I just remembered that someone was selling the headliner fabric on ebay a little while ago I dont know if it is still there but it might come on again. I dont know if thats what you were looking for but i just thought of it.

I know he said he was going to scrape it off but i dont know exactly what the "woes" of his headliner are so i was just trying to be helpful.

I want to keep the interior more or less the same. The headliners seem to have a pretty short lifespan and are expensive to replace, so I was looking for cost effective option that 1. Looks Good 2. Keeps all the roof pieces in their proper place 3. Is trouble free for the rest of the time I have the discovery......Thanks for the input so far.

Kevin,
what is the price difference between your options then the risk of sagging due to weight of Rhino.
I think from a financial point of view, considering life span of headliner, better choice would be new headliner.

Hi guys I rhino lined the cargo area and other floor boards in my disco- I went with 1/2 inch thick. Sound is not a problem at all, I love it- just a little pricey.

a new headliner is about 550 (from a dealer) and I havn't found one used that doesn't need to be reupholstered. I think they can put the stuff on in varying thickness and to make up for the thickness of the fabric liner I don't think you'd need much. Plus, if you've ever taken the sun visors and and the attached storage bins, I thnk you'd agree that this may be one of the more over engineered areas of the vehicle.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen how many and how large the bolts are that hold the subwoofer to the rear door? Holy Cow!

A gallon of Herculiner is less than $100 and you can do it in 2 hrs or so, once the surface is prepped. I did my cargo area with 2 heavy coats and it is maybe 1/8" thick. You may only need a quart or two, which is even less. I've also heard of folks painting it, if color-coordination is a concern.

What is the problem with your headliner. If it is sagging, check this out:
