Just my luck -- Right before I start my trip home for spring break, my check engine light comes on. I didn't really have much of a choice but to go ahead and drive it, it was 3am when I left. So I go on my 800 mile trip or so, towing a 3000 lb trailer for roughly 500 miles. The light is on the whole time. When I finally get home, I stop by autozone to get my codes read, but as I pull into the parking lot, stop my engine and start it again, the light goes off. I drive my truck for another couple days and the light comes back on. Another trip to autozone, the guy hooks up the reader, and there's a "link error" or something to that effect. He's puzzled, said he's never seen that happen before. We try 2 more times, no dice, so I head out, planning to stop by a dealer again. Magically, the light shuts itself off in a few more days, and I haven't seen it since.

I can't figure out what was going on with the system, the autozone guy thinks someone might have messed my OBD II up. The battery was nver disconnected, and never died -- the clock read the same. The only thing I can figure is that I was in some deep mud that kicked up into the engine bay. Could this have done something?

(Gremlins -- reference to airplanes, something mysteriously and unexpectantly goes wrong, blamed on gremlins)

What's the problem, Dave? Sounds like it's functioning as normal.

Do you notice any change in the way your motor behaves. Chances are it's just another one of those blasted Lucas sensors/gremlins. Probably one of those damn expensive "lambda" (O2 to you Yanks) sensors.

The best way to fix those pesky gremlins it to take a small piece of black electrical tape and stick it over said "Check Engine" light and forget about it. Just keep wheelin' and smiling!

Cheers

The only thing I've noticed wrong is a high idle, but thats been going on for about 2 months -- with no check engine light. I've got another thread on that -- "high idle- help!"
