just curious I work for a cellular phone testing manufacturer. We manufacture testing equiptment for cellular companies. The test gear goes into test vans and get pluged into the cigarette lighter outlet. My question is what is the average output of the 12v outlet. I know the voltage is somewhere between 13.5 and 14.8 assuming you have a good battery but what about Watts or Amps. Did a quick internet search but to much info to read through for right now.

Depends on the current rating of fuse you have and rating of the wiring.
Power = Voltage x Current

Look in the fuse panel. Sometimes it is on with the radio circuit. Usually a 15A fuse. It will probably be different on all vehicles though. If there are "Power Points" in the vehicle they are most likely on a circuit of their own. If that's the case use Ohm's to determine how what the overload device is suited for.

That's what I thought but as is pointed out the cig is usally lumped in with the radio and clock and dome light. so the fuse will be a higher rating.
