Hello everyone! I just bought a 97 SE yesterday with 103k miles on it. It seems to be in good shape. I'm going to change fluids on transmission, etc. I've searched the threads and found nothing on using synthetic brake fluid. (I've used Valvoline on other cars before, worked great.) Is this good or bad for the Disco or should I just stick with regular brake fluid. I'm in NYC, so if anyone knows a good and cheap shop to do all the fluids, please let me know. Thanks and I am happy to have found Discoweb!!! |

I was at Kragen (Checker/Schucks or whatever it's called in everyone's place) and the only brake fluid I saw that was DOT 4 was a synthetic. Is this normal? |

The dot rating is what matters. just stick with a main name brand and the correct dot rating and your fine. the rating has to do with temp the fluid boils at. keep the lid on it. brake fluid sucks up moisture like theres no tomarrow. |

Get some Castrol LMA, my '96 was leaking from the m/cylinder, I started using some cheap stuff figuring I was going to need to change it out anyway. I read this post about using C/LMA, I put some in and the leak stopped, that was about 20k miles ago. |

Thanks for the replies. My brother is using ATE Super Blue Racing fluid for his BMW. Dry boiling point 536F and Wet boiling point 392F. I wonder if I can use this safely. I also read that if you don't use Castrol, there may be future problems. Any comments on this being true? I think I read this on British Racing's site. |
