I looked under my 2001 SD7 in search of the infamous CD changer connector, but could not find it. I'm not even sure what I'm to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI, my seats are NOT cloth, but could be one of those Land Rover vinyl (or it could be leather - I honestly can't tell the difference).

Its not there. Go to a car audio store and they will provide a special connector and a pioneer 6-CD player for around $250-350 including installation.

MIne was under the passenger seat. 2 wire sets with plugs under all of the dirt.
If you already have the changer, it is as simple as plugging it in.

Oops make that Alpine, not Pioneer. For the SD, if you don't have sun roofs you can mount it onto the ceiling, out of the way of flood-water! :-)

Dean,

Does the "special connector" allow the use of the stereo controls on the steering wheel? Thanks

Yes, its all functional. I picked up the changer for $220 when I flooded the previous one :-(, but expect to pay a bit more for the connector, they are around $90 I think.

I'm assuming the connector is 'loose' since it's not connected to anything, right? What color connector am I looking for? Thanks again.

If you have them, they would be the only wires under there not connected to anything. They fit perfectly into the back of the CD player and the whole thing is run by the receiver controls.

If you have them.

Check http://www.autotoys.com . They have an alpine changer/blitzsafe package in the mid $200 range that works great. I had this setup in my '01 DII, then I sold it to Paul Morgan (v22guy) when I installed a new deck. The steering wheel controls work with this alpine/blitzsafe setup, btw.

As a side note, I installed my changer in my glovebox - no problems with flooding in there, and it's a *MUCH* easier cable run from the back of the radio! :-)

Hey Tommy,

Are you the one who left that lone feedback on autotoys website? I was curious as to how you installed the cd changer in your glovebox. Did you use the supplied brackets to fasten the changer to the glovebox? If so, how did you do it? Thanks.

Ed,

I don't think I left any feedback on their site. I have ordered many things from them, and I'm completely happy with them and their service.

I didn't use any brackets when mounting the changer at all. I just stuck the changer in the glovebox and closed it up. :-)

I've currently got a Clarion AutoPc in my DII with a 6disc changer, and the changer is in my glovebox without any brackets. It works great, and I don't have any problems with skipping.

Tommy, how did you get a Clarion unit going on your DII? I thought only Alpine units worked in DII. Also, doesn't it get too warm in the glovebox (ventilation issue) for the cd changer? Is the cd changer small enough to fit in the glovebox without any modification? Sorry to bring up such basic questions, but I just got my DII and I've only begun learning about the truck. Thanks again.

I replaced my stock deck with a clarion autopc (navigation unit, etc). That's how the clarion changer works. :-) You're right, though, with the blitzsafe adapter, an alpine changer will work.

I never had any heat/ventialtion issues with the changer. I've had a changer in my glovebox since I got my 2001 DII in 2001. I don't think it generates much (if any) heat.

The changer I got fit fine with no modifications.

No prob on the questions. I'm happy to help!
-Tommy
