My buddy is up from texas and I'm taking him to Paragon to show him a good time.

I am welcoming anyone who wants to 'wheel tomorrow. We need three vehicles to explore about, but it would be great to get a group together.

Paul, I heard you are in town, do you want to come tomorrow?

Cheers,

and I hope we can get something together...

Kennith

On a good note, I met the Boys from EE. Very nice people.

I'll catch up with you when I return on the 10th.

Gawd gp, did you eat barbed wire while you were at it? I thought you'd been a little scarce here lately. Hope you're good to go now.

Karen :)

Wow! a fellow kidney stone survivor. Can be a "bloody" mess at times and pissing razor blades is a good way to describe the pain. My first KS experience came after I overdid a pink grapefruit juice diet. After researching kidney stones on WebMD I found that drinking a lot of grapefruit juice can cause and/or aggrevate them..... so cut back on the juice if your so inclined.

Also, I'm originally from Central PA ... Huntingdon county.

Dang Garrett, you moved again? Still in State College, or somewheres else? Seems you get around.

yeah i get around. hehe. still in state college, but just a NEW place. just about all moved in.
this is my second time with stones. had them 2 years ago while living in VT. this time they came on strong just when i got into work. went to the ER and got some kick ass meds!!! oh how do i love morphine. but they seemed to have flushed the things out. oh the joys of being over 30 now. ugh.
huntingdon co. eh. that is just over pine grove mountain. don't get over there too often.......just sometimes when taking the back way to DC. very nice area though. only about 15 min or so from state college.
my only concern now is that i live across the street from the womans Penn State lacrosse team. ugh. they were off loading 5 kegs on friday night into their house. i need to make friends with them i think. maybe they have morphine too!!! :)

Garrett,

Yeah morphine... problem is it wears off suddenly and boy oh boy if you haven't passed those babies... you're back in painsville.
Good 'ol State College. My memories are of moving my little brother into the "veterans" frat house. They were lousy housekeepers and stuck my brother on the top floor. He went into the Navy before college so that he could afford PSU. He's now with the Defense Mapping Agency in Bethesda as some sort of manager... hush hush and all that security stuff !
I hope you're getting enough drugs to get offroad ... without truck trashing of course.
I have a standby vial of Percosett ( spelling unknown).

I wish I was taking my D1 to Moab, UT but that's too long a ride from VA for my wife's sensitive back... That's why she wasn't at Uwharrie with me. We probably won't get offroad at Moab but I'm getting plenty of advice here on DiscoWeb.

hey mark. are you talking about that house that was on the corner of Beaver Ave. and up from the Gingerbread Man? (yes i said beaver). mostly military guys in the house. couches on the lawn and the roof......dogs all over and just kinda out of place in the middle of town. they tore that down if that is what you are talking about. few years back. bastards!!! was pretty much called the Animal House and was an eye sore to many of the locals.....well except me. now PSU just has riots.

Water Water Water.... The first time my truck got wet was 3:00 in the morning on the way to Pocono Hospital. Those Amish hair nets work great for straining urine, so soft too...

Garrett,
Yeah that sounds like the place. They enclosed a porch with heavy plastic and used it as another room year-round. My brother will be saddened that his home has succumbed to the "riot" generation's urban renewal.

Someone's bad mouthing the Amish? They are great people ... except for the slick roads they created from running those narrow buggy wheels on paved highways. If you've ever been through Big Valley (southwest of State College) during a rainstorm, you don't now how smooth they've made those roads. I like the atmosphere the Amish of PA have maintained and their adherence to tradition.. It take a lot of courage to do that!

yeah i am doing my best to stick to just water. i mean my diet is pretty good. i don't drink soda or crap at all.....not even cheap beer. all i drink is water, juices and beer. no coffee either.
but speaking of amish......oh actually don't get me started. paul m. will agree to that.
yeah i am pretty familiar with the big valley. actually my parents are good friends with the Peachy's. they are a huge family over there that own many of the farms and the large 'grocery' store called Peachy's. pretty interesting to hang out with them and all that. even stranger to have them over at our house. their houses are neater than anything.....amazing folks though. but i know what you mean about the roads. over time they are grooved pretty bad and hold water like an Alpine Slide!! you gotta drive slow on the other side of the mountain that is for sure. every once in while someone plows into the back of a buggy. but like us 'english' do (as they call us) they have a class system too. but theirs is easier to detect. depending on what color top on their buggy is does determine their sect. i.e yellow and black tops are the wealthiest. and actually the 'brown pants' are the poorest.
yeah that house on beaver was classic. i was pretty pissed when they tore that down. it was so out of place in the middle or town. and in the mornings it was great to see half naked guys/girls sprawled out all over the yard and roof!! haha. good ol days.

Garrett - I thought that buggy color signified how strict an order they belonged to?

ie: - black - traditional strict Amish

gray/yellow - different orders that have broken away from the hardline over the years such as Mennonite.

At least according to a pretty good book I read recently about the Amish.

I don't know about color or status. But damn they work hard and make great products out of wood.

Ah well, my experience with the SoMd Amish has not always been so positive. Let's just say "Witness" was a Hollywood idealized notion.

color does mean different 'orders' of the amish, but along with that they do have a class separation to a degree. they rarely marry outside their own sect. they even have a group called the 'one suspenders'. not kidding. they also live in the 'Big Valley' off 322 between Lewiston and State College.
they are pretty good craftsman, but they typically work best with a good set of plans. if you don't give them precise direction you may not end up with what you want. we do have them build a good amount of our furniture. one of the few places we have found where you can get a large, solid walnut tables pretty reasonable. walnut does not seem to be abundant around here, but they work with it quite often. they do allot of work in this area with local builders too. a good # of the smaller home builders use them pretty consistantly. they typically have shuttles that run from the Big Valley to State College every morning and evening.
oh also you cannot have a beard if you are single with some amish sects. that and some are not allowed to have the bimini style tops on their 'commuter' buggies. man.....i would have a killer tan by now.
