I have a 98 D1. This afternoon I was replacing a burned bulb in the tail light cluster. All went well and I turned my lights on to test the bulb. I forgot to turn them back off and I thought my battery must have run down. So anyway I went to get in the truck and the keyless entry didn't work, so I used the key manually to open the door. When I did that, my alarm started going off in a weird way. The horn beeped every now and then, no lights flashed, and there was some crazy fast clicking sound that could be heard in the cabin. So anyway, the only thing I could figure was the battery was run down and called a friend to come jump me. To get the horn to stop I just unhooked the positive connection to the battery. When he came over to jump me, as soon as I put the positive connection back on, the alarm started operating normally. Horn blaring, lights flashing, etc. But the keyless wouldn't work, putting the key in the door wouldn't work, and putting the key in the ignition and trying to crank the truck wouldn't work either. And now that it's dark I just gave up and unhooked the battery and called it a night. Unfortunately my sunroofs are open and one of my windows is down. Anyone have ANY idea what this could be?1?!?!?

You upset Joe Lucas.....charge up the battery gently and see what happens. If original or more than 3 years old, a flattening can kill it.

You might have to reprogram the key fob. Hold it near the lock and click the lock button on the key fob 4 times to reprogram it, then try and open the vehicle with it. The alarm should not come on. If you suspect the battery in the key fob is dead, then you'll have to replace it before you try reprogramming it.

Also, if you lock the vehicle with the key fob you have to open it with the key fob. If you try and open it with the key when it was locked with the key fob, the alarm with go off. However, you can lock the vehicle with the key and open it with the key fob and the alarm will not go off.

Or at least this has been my experience.

I read somewhere recently that the alarm system will give you a few tries (6 I think) to get it turned off, and then after that its considered a theft and completely immobilized and you'll need the dealership to reset it for you.

Alarm system "remembers" status that you left it in, according to shop manual. Also, as i recall, it will try to tell you with some goofy way of doing it, if your fob batteries are dying.

I'd try to follow path of getting fob batteries up. Unhook groun wire (i hope you got your radio code written somewhere), put it on back after about 15 mins, and then try to open truck with yer fob.

And yeah if alarm is engaged you cant crank engine. According to manual, again :-)
