Hi all, I have a Warn 12000 winch that I would like to cover it to keep all of the nasty crap off of it. When I went to buy a cover, the guy said that the winch cover actually keeps humidity in and makes the winch rust quicker. Is this statement valid? Since this has to do with climate, I am located in Charlotte, North Carolina where it is very humid, and it does rain occationally. Also, the winch is fairly new (less than a month). Thanks. Max, I'm no expert but in our climate I would tend to agree. The cover would just trap the moisture in there. At least uncovered, the sun will dry the moisture rather quickly. I opted to pass on the cover when I purchased my winch. It's been a year and doesn't look any worse now than it did last year. |

I agree with Greg, but a cover might help prevent corrosion if it is loose fitting to allow circulation. Also if the rig is a daily driver that might help keep the air cirulating under the cover compared to one sitting in the sun in 98% humidity. I like the fact that the salesman talked you out of buying the cover. That's very rare. |

Thanks y'all. That started to make me think, and I agree. Moe, the guy really talked me out of it b/c he didn't have any in stock . Oh well, really nice guy. Maybe next time I will buy something from him . Thanks y'all. Max T. |
