I have a 1992 Range Rover, base model, no swaybars and will be adding OME 751 HD springs in front and OME 781 HD/MD springs in rear, with 245/75r16 tires. I am driving 70% street and 30% off-road. I am looking into Bilstein or OME shocks. I am leaning towards Bilstein because I don't have sway bars and that might be better for on-road driving with some sacrifice for off-roadability. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

stick with the OME... They are half as much as the bilstein, have a larger diameter piston and shaft, and are matched to the according OME springs as a complete system. They offer more travel than the Bil's, and will allow for the most articulatin for your money. There are two options for valving for both front and rear from OME the N45f fronts are more common, and a little soft for mostly highway with no swaybars. N115f's are fronts from OME with valving similar to Bil's, and may be a better choice if you want something with a little more dampening. For the rear there is the N46 (softer) and the N44 (firmer). Stick with the OME if she is going to see the dirt....

half as much as Bilstein?

Bilsteins are about 60 a pop - Craig, you'd make me 2x happier if you point me towards a source of $30 OMEs!

$60.00 Bilsteins? That's new to me.... Whoever is selling those isn't making a dime ( or probably losing a little to draw in business). Whatever the price, I'd still stick with OME's for that install....

I would like to know what color your truck is?

On my Pembroke Grey 92RR base model I have the RR green & pink stripe springs, with Rancho 10" travel shocks on all four corners(and some spacers). My comment/suggestion is to use longer travel shocks, or move your shock mounts to regain some drop lost to the lift.

Randall,

I have an alpine white rover, don't know what color stripes on the springs, way too old and crusted with junk to tell. I am now leaning towards going with shortbus's suggestion of using all OME springs and shocks. Expeditionexchange.com has a set of OME springs for $240 and shocks for $272 and steering damper for $55 and I thinks these are good prices.

Alan

So far I am only aware of two other Pembroke Grey RRs, a special color for the 92 base model, that's why I asked.

The OME is a decent set up for some lift, and I too am using the OME steering damper. After you get everything on the truck, do consider moving the shock mounts to match the lift. Also consider a "drop kit" for the rear.
