My good friend, Beast (94 D1 5 speed) died on 30 April from cat converter ignition. It was taken to a salvage yard called SADISCO according to my insurance company. VIN is SALJY1283RA099743. It had moon roofs, jump seats and dual air. I can't find the company in the Columbia SC book, so it might be out of area/state. FWIW.

From their website:
SADISCO OF COLUMBIA
343 DOOLEY RD.
LEXINGTON SC. 29073
MANAGERS: TERESA AND EARL BRITT
PHONE 803-356-4810

It's not on the list yet.

Hope you're all okay.

I'd like to hear how bad it was, tho'... Was it a bad burn, or, did it kill the engine, etc. and leave the rest intact?

Fire nailed the engine compartment electrical harness, SRS harness and all vacuum lines (brake, clutch, etc.), hood liner and a small charred spot on the hood of about four by six inches. Fire was out in under three minutes as I was at auto parts store looking for vacuum line fittings. Guys there had a lot of fire extinguishers! Nobody hurt from fire except for Beast. Land Rover Columbia estimated about $7,000 in under hood expenses based on visual of damage, battery was disconnected so testbook was not even attempted. I would guess that the engine is 99-100% as only a heat plume went through the engine area. Local body man estimated $1,200 for hood and paint (and he is really great with his work). Drive train was sound, minor seepage of power steering system which I suspected was a seal on a hose was biggest complaint. My personal bests were a dead deer after I first bought it and then a small dead Toyota truck which ran a stop sign to hit me. Beast drove me home from both with bruises, but no broken bones (body panel damage only). Damn, I miss that Beast. Worst parts are (in no order) I'm a volunteer firefighter (you'd think that I would have my own extinguisher); I was in the process of upgrading the stereo system (new speakers and looking for audio systems); I only had two years to go in payments (nuff said)! I assume that I was about the fifth owner based on carfax printout. The replacement (Snooty) is almost identical (98 LE in black). Just installed my fire fighting vehicle equipment in it last weekend (lights/siren). Snooty is a wee bit more proper than Beast with its interior wood trim, but will still run to a fire with the same spirit.
