Could someone please explain the black painted hood look? Is it aesthetics, glare control or something else? Thanks. |

Is it paint or adhesive vinyl? I have a white RRC and the glare from the Hella's on the roof rack is pretty bad. I think this would help but I don't want to paint my hood flat black. |

Some use the LR hood sticker, some use paint. I wonder if it would be worth it to try flat (non-gloss) white to help cut the glare down. Chris von C |

Chris: LR makes a huge sticker? I'd like to see the install on that! Sounds like fun. |

LR makes a sticker, but save your money. That's what I've got on my Disco and in hindsight I wish I had just painted it instead. Simple reason: LR Sticker: $90 Paint: $6 Krylon flat black My 2¢ Nathan Hindman http://www.PangaeaExpeditions.com |

Chris, It probably wouldn't be worth it to try a flat white paint. The white still reflects too much light. Most professional photographers use what amount to big white sheets to reflect light up onto models in most photo shoots. The darker the color of the hood the more light it will absorb. ie Maroon or midnight blue might work but then you're stuck with a maroon or midnight blue hood Nathan Hindman http://www.PangaeaExpeditions.com |

Nathan, yeah I kind of thought that even the flat would be too reflective but you never know, someone may have done it. Mine is looking real beat so I was going to redo it with paint. Has anyone just painted over their old sticker or have problems with the paint cracking due to hood heat? Chris von C |

I've decided to paint my hood also and am selecting a paint now. Flat black. I might go for a non-skid textured version. Any tips on taping off the hood for painting with a foam roller or brush. Taping seems tough around the bends at the corners at the front of the hood. Ron Ward |

I have the sticker, if I do it over again, and my sticker is getting beat up so I will have to eventually, I will use a non skid paint. |

Save some money...Go to a vinyl sticker place (like one that puts advertisements on the sides of trucks) Tell them (or show a picture) what you want and have them make it and put it on. I have heard that the LR ones are shipped poorly and take forever to get here and are WAY overpriced and hard to install without being all bubbley. |

Maybe you could find someone to make a carbon fibre hood? Get the blackout effect, you can lighten the vehicle and all the rice boys will think you're cool! |

Chris von C, I was just wondering if your paint is cracking on your hood? Did you remove the insulation from under the hood? Thanks, John Averett |

John, I still have the LR sticker up there with the factory insulation under the hood. Its spotty and looos like hell. The LR oval stick I have up there is what has cracked and also looks bad. I was wondering if anyone had painted over a decal. Chris von C |

A friend of mine painted his with Rustoleum Industrial Coating (spray can type) in Flat Black. His turned out great and looked like the sticker that was on there. The sticker was ripped in a few places and looked bad. |
