Hi all,

I need to update my Video card and I don't know how to. I think there are websites I can go to, but I don't know which one. Can anybody help me? My current system is a 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee, it is putting out about 16 MB. I think I need more to run one of my new programs. Thanks.

3Dfx was bought by Nvidia over a year and a half ago so you might be able to try Nvidia's website for legacy hardware support.

lr max what are you looking for drivers for the video card or an actual video card to purchase?

How do you use your computer? Any gaming or CAD? Video/audio editing? You should pick a card to suit your needs. If you aren't doing much of the above, a cheaper card will work just fine.

Installation is straightforward. Just unscrew and pop open the case, unscrew the card and pull it out of the slot, then repeat in reverse order with the new card. Then boot and install the packaged drivers.

I currently have computers with
128 mb geforce4 Ti4600
64 mb geforce3 ti500
64 mb geforce2 mx
64 mb geforce2
64 mb radeon 8500

Personally I like the 128mb geforce 4 the most but the best bang for your buck would probably be a geforce2 mx but you will benifit mostly if you have a motherboard that supports the card ex. a AGP 1x-4x support will also be important information. If you buy a geforce3 card and you only have a 1xAGP slot or a 2xAGP slot you will not really benifit the full usage of the card you are better off getting a geforce 2mx with 64 mb.

Anon,

I mainly use my computer for typing and gaming (typical High schooler :)). My computer has been fine, and I have had no trouble, until I bought that game Medal of Honor Allied Assault. It looked like a cool game. But it requires so much that my computer can't take it! Check this out: you need 450 MHz Pentium II, 128 MB RAM, 8x CD-ROM, and 1.2 GB free hard drive disk space, and at least a 16 MB OpenGL capable video card. If I'd have known it was that big of a trouble, I wouldn't have bought it!! A waste of 50 bucks!!!

Oh well, I might as well upgrade, so here is what I *think* I need: a 32 MB (I guess) video card capable of supporting OpenGL and DirectX 8.0.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

...wow! This is too complicated. I think I'll stick to Series rovers :).

If you're a serious gamer you have to keep up with the hardware. That's just the way the industry works. The last time I was seriously gaming was back in the Counter Strike days. Oh wait, people still play that today. I've long since retired from serious gaming and lan parties.

I would go for a geforce2 mx you can pick one up for cheap compared to the price of other cards.

This geforce2 mx with 64 mb will play medal of honor pretty good. 38.50+shipping.

I get into all this stuff mostly because it is part of my job. Only I mostly deal with higher end 3d graphic systems.
