My parents are sick of the money and inconvience my 1988 Range Rover causes when it always breaks. They gave me this deal: either fix the car or we are selling it to the junkyard. I love my car! It's yellow, lockers, arb bumpers, 4.6 engine, winch, fog lights, sliders, swampers etc. You get the picture. Yet it has gone through four years of college (brother) and it sat in a feild at Rovers North for 2.5 years uncovered. Now i have it, and it's RUSTED. I began off-roading it a lot and now everything is breaking. John C. had been busting his butt and donating his time to help keep her turning over, but the problems are building and building. PLease d-web help me keep my Range Rover from the junkyard. Here is the first problem i am going to list.
1)When starting the car, it turns over and starts but then the RMP's drop like it's about to stall, then it sputters and shakes then revs to about 1500 and then levels off. The distributer is brand new, so are the wires. The altenator is about 2 days old. What is causing it? I will list list more problems later.

Try cleaning the stepper motor first!! And get a Haynes manual which has step by step trouble shooting advice. Also have you ever replaced the fuel filter ? Maybe it is limiting the gas off the start from being clogged. You also may need a volt meter or somebody that can use one to go around and test the electrics (coil and coolant temp sensor. in this case maybe) Did it work better before the new alternator was installed?
Use the search archive here to print tons of info on cleaning stepper motors etc etc.

I know you don't want to think about it but you could part out the truck and make lots more than a junkyard or start reading this and roversnorth bbs and be willing to learn.
