I live in Lynchburg, and the only person I've had look at/work on my truck so far is located in Raleigh, NC. He's only convenient when I visit my sister down there...so, I'm looking for someone closer and preferably in Charlottesville. I know there is a dealer in Richmond, but I'd prefer to go north.
Thanks for any info in advance!

Oh, Susannah:
Call Mike Javor 434.923.0964 at the Service Center in C'ville. Lot of Rover folks have used him (including me) and he's good and very fair. He's not into hard-core "enthusiast" stuff, but he'll do anything you want as well as just normal regular service.

Thanks Mike! I'm really just looking for basic service stuff at this point, so that will be great!

Susannah,
I will second the endorsement for Mike. I was in C-ville for a couple of years going to school, and he did a bit of work on my series truck for me while I was there. A little hard to get a hold of some times, but he did a great job and he is very fair.

Thanks Seth. I'm thinking about heading up to him this week to have a few things looked at....can either of you tell me where in C-ville the shop is located?

It's in a little nook off Main Street right across from the Amtrack station. You'll see a few Rovers and Jags sitting around. Blue Bird cafe is really close by and if you're sitting around waiting, go in there and get a Sierra Nevada on tap.

Michael has been working on my truck(s) for years and does a great job. A bit slow sometimes, but he works by himself.

PS- We'd better see you at MAR this year!

Sounds great, I'm glad to hear that so many people use/trust him. That is always better than finding a new mechanic to 'try.' I've been through quite a few in the past when I had Mercedes...and some were pretty sly.

And E-I'm crossing my fingers that I will be at MAR...as soon I find out the dates, I can warn my boss! I'm really excited to attend, even if I don't do any driving...

I'll add my kudos to Mike Javor. He's a bit quiet but does good work and gives advice on potential used purchases. I stopped in to ask him the size of the oil pan nut and he told me to call the dealer... so don't use him for simple mundance stuff ... he does only the hard stuff. The last time I was there he was working on restoring Boggs #7 ... an old military Defender for one of our well known LR owners.

He's located behind Mel's Diner off Main St. across from the train station parking lot. I've eaten a few breakfasts at the Blue Bird Cafe... its a small place and you can almost reach the grill if you sit at the counter. Not a place for salad eaters.

Susannah-
It is always the first full weekend in October.
Enoch
And Mark, you'd better be there with both trucks! No excuses for a C-ville rover owner not to make it to MAR.
One of these years I'm going to get M. Javor to come down for the event. I think he'd get a kick out of it.
PS- That nut size is 1 1/8", I believe!
