I want a cargo trailer. I also want a camper. Of course, you can't tow both at the same time. So, I have been brain-storming on how to temporarily use the cargo trailer as a camper.

As awkward as this sounds, I have been looking hard at horse trailers. The main reason is because they are ventilated and have stylish doors and windows.

Here is a list of camper items that I'd like to incorporate in to the horse trailer with initial ideas in (parenthesis). I want to keep the hauling capabilities of the trailer, so the modifications must be easily removable.

1. Bed (Army Cots or Ottoman)
2. Sink (Build sink/cabinet- caster wheels)
3. Grill/Stove (Got it- on wheels)
4. Shower (Build portable shower[PVC])
5. Table (Cabela's style folding table?)
6. Furnace (Looking for options)

Of course I'll have a lot of little conveinences to boot like privacy curtains and mosquito netting, but these are the major items my wife and I insist on having.

The furnace is my major obstacle.

If you see something that I should consider-reconsider or have a neat idea on something, please share.

My wife and I plan on making a month long trip this fall covering approximately 5,000 miles hitting over five national/state parks in the West. We are(at least I am) really excited about this trip and want to go prepared.

Thanks,

BW

Have you thought about using a enclosed cargo trailer like the ones at Home Depot. I have thought several times about converting one of those into a camper. They have side and rear doors. different sizes and some have windows. Just a thought.

I haven't seen any with windows. I did a search on their website but nothing turned up.

The next time I drive to "civilization" I will check with them for sure. I live an hour from Tuscon which is really inconvienient. I am an addict to Home Depot and Lowes. I can walk around their stores for hours.

Thanks,

Take a look at these. You could always do the concession stand trailer.

If you are seriously considering a horse trailer there are many trailers that already have very nice living quarters. Depends on how large a trailer you'd want to haul, but you might find a nice two horse model (so it's not too huge)already set up for humans. Trouble is, what are you thinking of using as a hauler? These tend to be goosenecks, so hauling with a Disco wouldn't work.

Jeremy- I've looked at the concession trailers. I really like their setup. Some even come wired for interior/exterior lights. Most of them though only have door-size entrances. This does not support the "cargo" concept. Great idea though. I will likely call a vendor and see what kind of configurations they can build.

Karen- I have seen the trailers with built in living quarters. They look really nice, but the cabinets and etc . . . are mounted. I want to be able to "roll" out the camping components so I can keep the "cargo" concept. Goosenecks are the most popular style, but they do make bumper pulls.
