Thought we might want to share what people will be doing for the 4th of July...and what things involve our Discos?!

I'm taking "4THMTNS" TO the mountains...b/f and I are taking a week in the Smokies. Spending the 4th in Asheville, NC. Camping for 5 days in Cherokee and the NP.

Burgers and beer by the pool. I'll use my Disco's ARB compressor to inflate the new pool rafts :)

Then heading north to unburned AZ for a little R&R on the 5th & 6th...

LOL...

A lot of priests and preachers require pre-marriage counciling anymore, Kyle.... maybe not a bad idea, but, I dunno, maybe, given their recent track record.....

I wouldn't want an interview with any priests right now!! No offense Robbie!

BTW, Lake Anna isn't far from here is it?

LOL, our priest didn't like some of my answers to his questions...but my check clearered the bank just fine so everthing was cool. Gotta love "non-profit" religion...

I got married in Feb and had to be interviewed twice by a cath. priest. We also had to go to a "engaged encounter class". The class was to help you decide if living together in married life was you and your spouce. Funny I lived for 2 years with my wife, we owned a house, and disco, bought together before marriage. The priest requried us to meet with him go to the class and meet again, I wanted to Vegas, by our families would have disowned us.

yeah, "interview," i dunno what the deal is either. fiance is Catholic and wants to have her priest, but he needs to interview us and go through some classes or somesuch. no idea what the process involves, and hopefully it is just to make sure we aren't crazy. long as he marries us, and doesn't make us go through hoops, will do it to make the lil woman happy.

Sus- no offense taken, not Catholic and won't let him be alone with me! :)
And Lake Anna is right in the middle C'Ville, Richmond and Fredericksburg, in Louisa, VA.

We are going down to Cherokee for the July 4th Powwow...I've never been and I'm really excited. Plus, we will make a stop by LR Asheville on the way to check out the new cars!! My Rover might get jealous, but I want to see the newest editions to the family!

Sus,
See if they still have the Judge Dredd vehicle out front, they did the last time I was across the hill....

12 years ago, we had to do the interview-thing, too... it was with my pastor who was a buddy of mine, so it was kinda wierd, but... he thought we were too young, but liked our answers, though.... he was right, we were too young, but, we're still together as-of-yet.... :)

Up in Va myself for this week. Planning on going out tomorrow to find some places to drive and to stop by LR Richmond (about 20miles south of me now)to get a gasket. Might be good to bring the Disco back to TX with some Va mud on it..=-)
Anyone on the list with a Tenn plate that says ROVRGUY? I waved as I passed him in Knoxville.
Eric thanks for the email about the run this past sunday. Sorry I missed it.

Robbie, I was in the same boat, wife catholic and I'm not. If they say classes, the engaged encounter is what they mean. Convince her to run away to vegas, its the only thing to save yu from the hoops.

Man, I hope it doesn't end up being some big production. Tried the Vegas or Bahama wedding thing. No go, on her part or her mother's. Only hope is that he ministers down at VA Beach at Sand Bridge and is a lot less strict then the typical catholic priest. guess we'll see.

thanks for everyone's support! (dripping in sarcasm) :)

Good stories Leslie! That's how we feel right now...everything thinks we are too young.

I remember passing by the dealership on my way to Brevard once...I have been scouting out dealerships on every work trip around the country!

Welcome to the Old Dominion, Don! Hope you enjoy your time here!

Funny, your what 23 sus? Come to Utah, that's concidered old here for marrage. Hell at your age you should be working on your third kid. I came from PA and experienced culture shock at the age of parents here. Me at 29 and my wife at 26 and the only 'kids' of two dogs gets us a lot of raised eyebrows, pretty odd.

Wow Andy! I didn't know that...well, I guess I should have thought about that guy with seven wives...
I'm 23, b/f is 25 and we have 3 dogs together. Our cars and animals are the only children for now!!
My family lives in MS, and down there a lot of people get married young and have kids before they are grown themselves!

Thanks.. Actually I am back home here in Va but I have been gone so long I forgot this area. Well I think I talked my Dad into hitting some trails tomorrow. I am trying to talk him into a old series after we finish the restore on my MG up here. BTW, anyone know who drives the great looking red series I saw in Fisherville? That was NICE!
Hmm am I weird at being 32 and still single? =-) Well too many toys. Now if I can just get the GF to like the new Mini's...

I love the new Mini's!!! Think they are adorable...look at www.miniusa.com to build your own! Although, I haven't been IN one!

My b/f lives in Fishersville and I was just there this weekend...driving back up tomorrow. I've never seen a Rover there!!!

I saw him as he pulling into a shopping mall right there close to the interstate. I think it was like a K Mart or something like that. I am not certain as I was looking at the Rover instead. I tried to flag him down but I dont think he saw me at all. That was a really nice one and it looks like he wheels it too. Well maybe I will run into him again on the trip home.
As for the new Mini's... If I could just find one. There are no dealers in Texas as of yet so I might look around here. I did leave my car hauler here when I brought the MG up last year..=-)

Well, I'm having family over for a cookout, then heading into downtown Matthews for a live (free) concert and watchin' the fireworks. Back to work on Fri, but it's an early day since the market closes early.

Oh, by the way Sus, if it's a catholic priest you're meeting with, don't worry. You're safe! Sorry, but I had to say it.

Speaking of beer... I'll be making some homebrew on the Fourth, and drinking some previously made brew while I do it. I'll probably go watch fireworks in the evening and then continue drinking.

I just finished shooting-up a 7-lb turkey breast with "cajun seasoning" in preparation for tomorrow's turkey fry!!!!!! I'm a native New Orleanian and my wife lived there quite a few years before we met. Will be served with potato salad using potatoes boiled in seafood boil mixed with zesty dill pickles, eggs, vidalia onions, fresh roasted garlic, lemon juice, mayo, creole mustard and dill fresh from our herb garden. Served with/before/after will be a nice pinot noir and/or dos equis dark. While we're at it, we'll install the rear ladder and front/rear lens covers received today then installing our new bumper and winch. After dark we'll go out and blow up a couple million fireworks (we're in eastern tennessee...) Oh, I forgot the deck, it needs to be sanded and thompson water-sealed.

There, that should fill the day! By the way, Sus, you're invited (bring friends) to the feast. We're ten miles south of Knoxville, twenty miles west of Gatlinburg.

Heeheehee....Paul, after all that meat, brew and CEEgars, I'm not sure your wife is going to want to cosy up too close to you! I hear ya on the weather, it's been monstrous here, too. The horses and I are asking WTF we are DOING for a living!

Speaking of turkeys, and Don was, anyone see what the South Park writers had Martha Stewart doing with a turkey tonight? LOL, I'm still chuckling about it.....

Just returned from the ol' vacation in the Smokies. Had a wonderful time tent camping for 5 days...but I only encountered 4 Discos on my trip. Only one waved and I think it was because he was scared. Have now trained the b/f to Land Rover driving...ie: must wave at others!

However, I had a rather annoying experience: we stopped in at LR Asheville to see the new 03s...have been there before when I was 'dreaming about Rovers' and was never even noticed, however, I thought driving up in my squeaky clean (to start the trip) 95 Disco, I might atleast get an offer for help or a friendly hello?! Not the case! We walked around for 30 minutes looking at the new Discos, a couple of Defenders and the baby Rovers...even explored the showroom and oogled the Kalahari edition Disco on display. No one even looked twice at us. Not a single employee from the car wash to the lot so much as glanced our direction. Usually when I go to a car lot people are jumping all over me to help...not this time. I couldn't believe it. There was a family that pulled up in an old 4Runner that was looking at a Freelander..they were all over them. Kissing ass so to speak! My b/f was completely turned off by our experience there--he told me to e-mail the dealership and complain. I mean come on...I could have been ready to buy a new one...they didn't have an idea what we wanted, but they never bothered to ask. I would never buy a car from that lot no matter what the circumstance...I could not believe their attitude. Anyone else have an experience with them? I would spread the word not to give them the time of day if possible!!!

One of the fellas there, Mike, I met at Uwharrie last year, and he was a really great fella to chat with hanging out around a campfire.

But, one day about two years ago, I had the EXACT same thing happen that happened to you there.... we had been hanging out around town, and decided to go and ask if the Freelanders were on the way (my wife was wanting one at the time, before we knew when they would be brought over). Well, it seemed like the people working that day would talk to everyone who was on the lot, but since we were cruising around in a Disco, they never gave us the time of day... I had to almost run one fella over to get a "I don't know" out of him....

So, I suppose that if you could find the right person there, it might not be too bad, but, I usually drove the other way down to Knoxville after that, instead of the shorter distance to Asheville.

FWIW.....

Understandably so, Les. Sad thing is my b/f and I have been talking about moving down there ever since our visit....but it would a shame to live near a dealership I don't like! Oh well....it's not like I use them much anyway!

Leslie N. Bright (Leslie)
Posted on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 09:50 am:   Edit Post Delete Post Print Post

FWIW, Knoxville isn't THAT far away.... Knoxville isn't the worst dealership, either.... maybe not the most stunning, which would be wherever Alyssa is, lol, but it'd be a choice. There's also one in Charlotte, which wouldn't be too far from Asheville, either.

And, there's the Thatched Roof Garage in Kingsport, too! Well, a Disco isn't a Series, but....

Keith has J&T Automart in Hendersonville, tho', that'd be in the area there....

Asheville definitely wouldn't be a bad place to live, there or the Boone/Blowing Rock area.... we just went over to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games on Friday, had a pretty good time just chillin' out over there.
