Firstly let me point out I am a die-hard Landrover fan. The first car I bought was a 1964 Series II (second hand in '84) - I sat and got my license in that car (passed second time - first time it was raining and the roof leaked on the tester ;) My father bought a '97 Discovery and has had few problems with it (Lucas electricals - say no more and I bought one of the first run of the Series II Disco's in '99 (TD5 + ACE + 7 Seats) Over the past 6 months it has been in the shop at least every month. First the radiator cracked and had to be replaced, the ABS sensor was recalled/replaced - then failed and now periodically I get an ABS warning light. The ACE hydraulic hose fractured and had to be towed to the service centre. When it was in for one of these services I had a loaner that I took on a country trip and noticed a significant performance improvement. When I raised this and asked for my car to be dyno tested for power output, they found a problem with the wiring harness that was affecting the engine management computer, and the whole lot was replaced - with fantastic improvements in power and noise levels. All of this has been done under warranty and the sevice guys have been outstanding. My concern is my warranty expires in a month. Are these problems unusual for a '99 series II and are there any known problems I might also encounter in the near future? I am seriously thinking of trading out into a more reliable model |

Trade up to a newer D2. Land Rover can't seem to get the first year (or first few years) of a new model off the ground without major issues. The dealer told me that when they send a 94 or 95 D1 home after repairs, they just hope it makes it home without another failure. They basically said the same thing about the 99 D2's... |
