CAN A COMPLETE 24 SPLINE REAR END FROM A RR OR DISCO BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE 10 SPLINE REAR END?

Yes. Only probelm might be if it is a much newer Disco with that roto flex coupling crap where the rear drive shaft meets the third member/diff. Otherwise should be a straight swap.

actually the newer 1997-1999 disco ones were u joints. and the 1987-1989 RR were not ABS , so there may be some hub issues. i dont know , but i suspect it would not be a straigth swap, unless you did liek a 1990RR to a 1998 dsico.. that might be straight up

I'm thinking about this also...that you could get about 50% more axle strength with a complete swap out. Especially if you don't have ABS to worry about. But you would have to get new diffs with 24 spline, CV joints, drive flanges, everything.

Beast place to ask would be Great Basin Rovers. But they will also want to sell their heavy duty stuff.

You can swap in the complete axle into any 90-mid93 RR.

Donors would be 94-99 DIs mid93-95 RRCs

87-89 you would have to swap over the t fitting for the brakes (no biggy at all).

You could also simply pull the diff and axles and they are interchangeable on the 90-93 but not the 87-89

last week i had a 1996 discovery complete rear end installed in my 1988 rangerover. it was a complete bolt off/bolt on job with the exception of the swapping out the disco abs brake connection for the non-abs rr connection. simple job. rr now updated to 24 spline rear end.

Couldn't you have done the same thing by swapping the axle and 3rd member?

I had the 10 spline axles in my 1992 Disco, and all I did was get the 24 spline RD56 ARB, the 24 spline axles, and the outside flanges. That set me back nothing compared to carrying a spare set of 10 splines on the RD03.
Oh, I do not have ABS.

no

wet hubs have different lengths than the later ones 90 and up

True Ron...and that sucks, but the 24s are way better than the 10s abd are worth the tiny hassle...
