Just wondering what to get. I was checking out some of the hand held CB's on the internet and thought that might be a good idea. My wife REALLY does not want on mounted in the truck, unless I can hide it somewhere.

CB and FRS are different frequencies.

Some GMRS also use FRS frequencies, a hybrid radio.

I haven't seen a handheld CB/FRS hybrid, doesn't mean that they don't exist, tho'.....

FWIW....

"Well here is the short and long of it. Citizen Band (CB) starts at 26.965 MHz and ends at 27.365MHz. Family Radio Service (FRS) starts at 462.5625MHz and ends at 467.7125MHz. As you can see the two are diffrent beasts."

Asked the same question and the above sums it up pretty well.

Maybe a good idea for your delema would be the Cobra 25wxst. Check it out on Amazon.com. It would work well because the onlt thing you would see is the mic.
I don't beleve you will find a CB that also does FRS. If you just want to listen to FRS, you can here the freq's on a scanner.

One thing to consider is this. Becuase of the frequencies CB uses a hand held will transmit little more than a few hundred yards from inside your vehicle. The short antenna and length of the frequency are the culprits. I have one and use it once in a while just for convoys so I can talk to the cars in front of or behind me.

If people also have FRS or GMRS then I drop the CB. The UHF frequencies in FRS or GMRS will work much better in the small antenna and find their way out of your vehicle. Even if you were to mount a GMRS antenna outside your vehicle a full 1/4 wave antenna would only be 6" so it's very easy to get a 6" antenna on hand held. Try mounting a 102" antenna for CB on a hand held.
