I am in the process of changing my tires and i am a little worried about the consequences. I have a 1988 range rover with Bf goodrinch mudterrains and i have already torn the drive trains. I want to put a taller and wider tire on the car, but i'm worried about the stress on the rest of the car. I was considering pro-comp xterrains and swampers. Are these good choices for a Range Rover? Any input would be awesome. |

"i have already torn the drive trains" Huh? Sorry, no comprende... ('course, it could just be me today, nasty head cold....) What size tires do you currently have? Do you have a lift of any sort? Need a bit of info.... -L |

hehe, yeah sorry i forgot to say what size. My current tires are LT245/75R16 (forgive me i'm just learning tire sizes). When i first modified from the stock tires to the Mud Terrains, I sheered the u-bolts connecting the drive shaft. I believe it was caused by the added size of teh tires. I currently have no lift, but i plan to add 2-inch spacers before changing the tires. I would like to go wider and a bit taller. how large until the tires would the tires rub on the wheel wells? |

Ah. I don't 'think' that 245/75R16s should have caused any problems.... theat's the size I'm running on my Disco, and I haven't had that happen. Usually, "Rover-style" is the tall-n-skinny type of tire, not tall and fat. I've got a friend who was running 215/85R16 tires on his stock Rangie, without any problems whatsoever. You can see it here: http://www.thatchedroofgarage.com/articulation.htm (My Disco is the one at the top, Jeff's Disco is at the bottom, and David's RR is in the middle. He's sold it now.) Now, I can't say for sure, but I would think that 235/85R16 tires would be okay. The RR has more open wheelwells than a Disco, so it should do. But, there are plenty of people here that have Rangies that can pitch in with their experiences. Best o' luck! -L |

I'm running 215/85 R 16 on my 1991 Rangie (1.5" EMU lift) with no problems at all, but I wish I had gone with the 235/85 R 16. I think you may need to adjust your steering stops to run these tires and without a lift they may be tight. Take care, Scott |

I went offroad with 265/75 on saturday and they "rubbed" on a dozen different places. But my suspension is super flexy, with only a 2" lift. I think with a 3" lift and using 235/85 you would have minimal tire rubbing. Randall |

I have 31x10.5 at's on 15x8" rims with 4" backspacing. The tires stick out quite a bit, but they still tuck up in the wheel wells nicely. I run a 3" Bearmach lift. |

Has anyone tried driving those Super swamper Radials? Next year I am going to college in the snowbelt of upstate new york, are they good in the snow? How about on the road? I can deal with the noise, but how is the handling and gas mileage? |

Stephen, The tsl radials SUCK in snow. Get truxxus, or the SSR's they have the sipes and will perform much better, unless you want to sipe them yourself |

Randall - I drove the POS black rangie behind you on Saturday. Just wanted to say how awesome your rangie both looks and sounds. Thanks for showing me the right line to take. Glad you made it home safe, we all missed you at the campfire. Hope to see you at UnWharrie TIRES: I run 245 75 on an OME 2inch lift with no rubbing to speak of, some on the radius arms but nothing to worry about. These tires are big enough to get over lots and small enough to keep my dumb ass from trying anything tooo extreme or have to buy new radius arms/control arms, and worry about driveline vibrations !! |

TSLs suck on snow...I have them, and unless I go under 10psi i cannot keep up with anyone...all Intercos do, I would prefer going for BFG AT/KOs, or anything similar...If you insist on Interco, then SSR seems the best... Nadim |

JB Thanks for the compliments. My big project last year was to make the suspension flex more and travel more than stock. Much more difficult than you would expect! I was trying the 265/75 to see if they would rub with the new setup. Everybody could hear me coming cause they hit all over the wheel wells. With my own 245/75 it's no problems. And like you I think I'll hold off on the 3-4" lift and stay out of trouble. Randall |
