I'm going to be up in Johnson City this weekend and would like to know of a place I could get out and show some friends what the ole rover can do. Nothing too extreme though, or if someone wanted to go for a not too long ride in the area that'd be great also. Anyone with info, or that's interested let me know. Thanks. Greg |

Couple of possibilities..... Go down to Erwin, then turn up Hwy 395 up to the state line at Indian Grave Gap... you'll be at Beauty Spot, and can run either way.... be awhile since I've been up there, but essentially you'll be running along with the Appalachian trail. You can also go out Hwy 67, turn left on Lone Oak, which will seque into Dry Creek Road.... after several miles, they'll be a forest service road on the left that runs up to the firetower. It's better to run up to the Mt. Rogers area and head for Scales, or Bear Tree Gap, but that's a bit further away. As a rule of thumb, find a map of the Appalachian Trail, and try anywhere that you can get up adjacent to the trail..... Good luck, -L |

Leslie, Thanks for the info, I went to school at ETSU but had forgot about the firetower and beauty spot. I'm sure they'll know how to get up there, it's been so long and not to mention without beer I wouldn't know my way around up there. Again, thanks for the reminder and if you want to go along let me know. Either for a night ride on Friday, or midday on Sat. Greg |

Wish I could, but I'll be doing dad stuff Friday evening, and loading a Series chassis onto a trailer for a guy Saturday..... and, the Series is still under-the-weather anyway. I appreciate the offer though... I'm starting to have dirt withdrawal, lol.... (not actually, given that I can muddy up a Jeep at work, but, a Rover's more fun....) Hopefully I'll have the Series together again for MAR, but even if not I'll ride shotgun with someone to get there. I would like to get another Disco sooner than later, too, but, I don't want a loan for one, so I'm gonna have to pool up a bit of cash and find a "beater Disco" once the funds are assembled. Eventually.... Again, thanks for the offer, but, it's just a busy weekend already. How often do you get to the area? Maybe sometime when you're up and I've got a rover running, we'll go run around a few other places I know.... L8R, -L |

Leslie, I don't get up there enough, usually I'm in Knoxville instead of JC. I'll probably be up there again around the end of Oct, first of Nov for Homecoming weekend. I'll let you know. You should come down to Southern Appalacian Expedition, SAE, in GA in Sept. I'm sure you've read some threads here about it. Again, thanks for the info on places to ride, and good luck with the Series truck this weekend. Greg |

I'd like to make it to SAE, but I KNOW I'm going to go to MAR in early October, so, I don't know if I can convince the wife to let me go to two Rover Rallies back-to-back, lol..... we'll see....
Have a good weekend, BTW.... You know, if you're in Knoxville, we need to get you and Robert S. together once I get a Rover together and head out to some of those spots north and west of Oak Ridge, or down to Tellico... L8R, -L |
