Hi Everyone Ok this is a bizarre request. But for me to order a "camel trophy" bonnet blackout sticker, or whatever it is called, LR wants a Kalimari VIN number... They flatout won't sell it to a mere mortal DII owner! My parts dude said, just dig one up a Kalimari VIN and he will order one. I've called around and non of the usual guys, roverconnection, rovers north... can get one for the DII, only the DI. I've tried sign stores, but non have film that wide. I don't feel like using paint either.... So if anyone of you have one, or know of one sitting at a dealer, please email the VIN. Please. Thanks Carl Kalahari wannabee ugh |

What a bunch of dicks. Hope someone can help you out. Check ebay, if one is listed for sale they may publish the VIN with the ad. |

I find that interesting, I bought a roll of black sticker, wide enough and long enough. Been on the hood for two years now and does not show any sign of wear at all. Hell of a difficult to put on though. |

It's got to be a mat finish, non reflective, the thicker the better. Tell them what it is for. They seem to classify the stuff on the UV rating. Any decent signage company should have it, I paid $21 for a 5'x4' piece. The roll was 48" wide. This is what I did: Let it lie in the sun for a while before you attemt sticking it on, Remember, you have one shot at it. No dust on the hood at all, make sure of this. Start at the centre top. Do not cut to size. Mask the outer edge on the hood with insulation tape. This way after it is stuck on you can see a definate line where to cut it. Be very carefull cutting it as you do not want to cut the paint. When sticking it on do not over stretch the sticker as this will come back and haunt you. Good luck. |

Willie Where did you buy it? Do you have their number handy. After calling 10+ places I gave up... Is your truck a DII? Thanks Carl |

Call another dealer. I can't believe they are giving you that kind of shit. I inquired about getting a Kalahari front grill emblem to go on my saudi grill and the parts guy made a few calls, etc. and said it would be about 3-6 weeks. They were specilly made by an outside company. Didn't order one but never did I get told I needed to get a VIN#. Anyway, if you still need a VIN# my dealer has 4 on the lot and I live about 4 miles away, I'll make a trip for ya! |

Discoheath THANKS!!!! Jay The "Kalimari" grill is just a Gulf state grill, so that is not an issue to sell for some reason. Of course they love selling it a $560... But they are very protective of that black plastic on the hood for some anal reason..... I've called 5 dealers in two countries, so I think I gave it a fair shot. Carl |

That is absolute horseshit...$174! I just got a quote now from my signage guys, I will get it for you for $35 plus shipping. Likely you will get away under $50. This is for 3mil vynal, uncut 6'x4' (7year UV rated) Let me know and I will get them to ship it to you. |

BTW, I would be too scared to cut the thing on the truck. I'd make a paper pattern and then cut it out. When installing, I've heard that if you spray the area down with windex, you can slide the sticker around and squegee out bubbles before it sticks to the hood. |

Does the Windex lessen the sticky life of it though? |

I was worried about that. I have used just plain water with the same technique successfully, on a smaller scale. FWIW |

I don't know. I've never done it myself, just read about it on this site before. Iw ould think water would be safer too but I figured maybe Windex evaporated faster or left less residue or something. Try it with some stickers on some scrap aluminum to be sure. |

Windex is definately the ticket. The biggest sticker that I've done is about 2' by 2'. You can move it around freely for about 10 minutes. Water does not work the same and for some reason, only Windex does the trick. 409 and other products don't work nearly as well. Windex does not appear to lessen the adhesive properties of the stickers either. Thanks, Mike B. |

The reason is that they are a royal PITA to install and they get damaged real easy. Ron |

Your biggest problem is the rounded hood, the sticker needs to stretch as it goes on, you can not do that when it is done cold or wet....don't think so.? |

When I had my windows tinted, the installer used soap and water in a spray bottle. I would check with a window tinter. They probaly wouldn't charge much if you gave them the piece already cut. |

I worked with a guy who owned a window tinting shop and we always used liquid dish washing soap/water mix. Use about one or two tablespoons of soap in an average size spray bottle. Completely wet the hood and the adhesive side of the sticker while you peel off the backing with the soap/water mix. Lay the sticker on the hood and line it up and then squeegee the water out, working from the center out. We used a drivers license or credit card wrapped with a paper towel as a squeegee. Windex has stronger solvents so we didn't use it. |
