OK as some of you know I`m getting my first Disco next month. My question is should I get the duel sun roofs or save the cash and get the adventure rack instead. I've heard the moon roofs rattle and make a racket after awhile. How true is this..and any personal experiance comments with the duel moon roofs would be nice. Thanks!!!

I have them but never open them. I like the light they cast into the truck but thats all. Skip them and use the extra $ for rack or other mods...

IMHO...

a) The stock ones are prone to leak from what I've been told by many (mine doesn't have 'em, so mine doesn't leak)

b) The factory ones are kinda small

c) a Disco just isn't 'open' with a sunroof... If you want the 'feel' of openness, I'd get a Series or a D90 to go w/ the Disco, or a convertible (an Aston Martin? lol....)

A little tounge-in-cheek, but... :)

I don't miss not having them in mine, FWIW...

Mi dos centavos...

I have them and I love them.. The rattling doesn't bother me cause I always have the stereo on.. They are great when you are going down the highway and want some fresh air with out rolling the windows down and getting blown out of the truck.. I like the open air feeling that you get with the sun roofs open and all the windows down on that nice spring day.. I like the added light as well.. It all depends on what you like.. I like the duel roofs though. Of course if I had the money I would have someone chop the roof off and make it a soft top disco..

Get the dual sun roofs -- but, ironically, not for the roofs. Get the Dual Roofs in order to get the leather seats. I have the vinyl seats and they suck. Sticky in the summer, brusingly hard in freezing temps, they just plain-assed hard to slide in and out either cold or hot. (And I have the cold climate package and that does not help).

Bottom line is that vinyl seats are not as efficient at moving your ass on and off the seat as leather ones are.

Huh?

My Disco has leather, and no sunroofs.....

FWIW...

Wonder if the dealer would swap out the 18" inch wheels for the 16" ones. I have no need for them 18 inchers that come on the SE...and buying better tires will be more $$$ on the 18" ones. If not it looks as if i`ll be going with the SD with no sunroofs (red or the forest green color).. If I can i'll go with the Baby crap green SE with the ASS enhanceing leather seats.

If I had it to do over again, I would go with no sunroofs and with cloth seats. Both sunroofs on my '96 Discovery have been replaced twice. Thankfully under warranty, but the vehicle is no longer under warranty, so what then? Also, the cloths seats are more comfortable in both cold and hot weather.

I'd say forget the sunroofs. Save a few $ and get a nice adventure rack, or some protection, (sliders, new bumper etc.)

Roofs are purely up to you. If you like them, then buy them. If not, then don't. They have moving parts, so they are liable to break. Just like any other car with moonroofs.

M Villanueva: I would recommend you get a set of the waterproof seat covers. I have just a front set. While I do have leather on my dII, I have a pet peeve about getting into a car wet, muddy or sweaty in the summer, and sitting on any seat: vinyl or leather. I bought a front set of seat covers and really like them.

Sunroofs are great if you like driving with all your windows down, so if that's the case, as it is for me, get them. If you don't roll down your windows often then don't get them and save the cash. I love the sunroofs, and the fact that there's two of them is the first thing every single person that gets into my car seems to notice for some reason. But they rattle...not too bad though, you can't hear them if the radio is on, so just do whatever you want, there is no yes or no.

I like the sunroofs. Sure they rattle, but so does the dash, the cup holders, the muffler...you get my point. I like to light they do provide even though they are smaller than I would like.
I have not had them leak, knock on wood...

I have a '00 DII with the dual sunroofs and wouldn't even consider buying one without them. As others have said it is all a matter of how important they are to you. I sold my wrangler to get the rover and I knew I would miss having a convertible in the summer. My only consolation were the sunroofs. Yes they are small, but I love them nonetheless. Mine never rattle when closed and only rattle when open while off-roading.

ONe other thing. if you do get the adventure rack it is quieter inside without roofs than with them.

Roofs suck! There is a little known SD option to get leather. i think it is like $750

I'd definitely trade the roofs for the leather option with the armrests. The Duragrain does not allow you to easily slide out of your Disco. You can always add a decent size roof for less money later if you can't live without it. But the dual "Mail Slots" aren't worth it for anything more than venting heat and smell...

I think that with the 2002 DII SE you HAVE TO GET THE SUNROOFS... its not an option. Anyone have a 2002 that has sunroofs that rattle???

Leeclanual,

You know I was thinking the same thing at work today. So i broke out the 2002 disco dealership book and the duel roofs are a STANDARD option BUT!! if ya look closely that book has 3-4 pic of a SE with-out the roofs. Not sure if its just avalible like that in Europe or if its also avalible here in the USA. I`ll be buing my DII next weekend so i`ll find out then. If i can get the SE with no roofs then i`m sold. If not then i`ll go with a SD. I was also wondering if i HAVE to get them 18 inch wheels with the SE..i'd rather get the 16 inch wheels. If anyone knows for sure please fill me in!! Thanks. I`ll also start a new thread as well.

If you get the two sunroofs you could use them for shooting at Rhinos and Lions when you are on safari. ; )

I have the sunroofs in my 2001 SE and have never even opened them but I like the light they let in and they don’t rattle YET knock on Rhino hide.

Have a 2002 with dual non-rattling sunroofs. This is the first vehicle that I have had with a sunroof and just think they are great. They add nice light to the interior and work really well. It's nice to know that they are there if I want to use them.
