Ricky-
The boys at FrogIsland 4x4 are big into bobtailing Rangie classics. They seem to be in your neck of the woods. Not too many of them on our side of the pond. You can always email me if you have any questions.

Craig - what size tire is that bobtail on in those pics ? Your list says 33's but they look much bigger - maybe it is the bobtail effect.

Thanks craig... i was gonna try and get in touch with you.
Did you do it yourself? What did you do with your roof? I see that the uncut roof is shaped in all directions... bummer!!! Where did you cut it? Did you weld it after shortening it??
Also, I see you got a real smart tank filler. What tank have you used or did you build one??
Do you have anymore pics? perhaps any close ups of problem areas???
Thanks again.

Has anyone else chopped one?? please get in touch...
Thanks again all,
Ricky
Thanks Rob for the starter link! :-)

. . . or the 12.5" width, coupled with a wider track from the wheels. also, keep in mind that he is on 15" wheels, so the sidewall height is a bit deceiving compared to what our eyes are generally trained to look for.

I've only seen one bobtail in person. this fella here in the NW cut up a "coveted" great divide rangie - works pretty well, as I understand.

cheers

JB-
Yeah, those are 33's in those pics.....

Ricky-
I did As much of the work myself as I could, but the more difficult cuts and all the welding was done by a fabricator in Colorado that specializes in aluminum. I sectioned aprox 17" of roof panel just behind the rear of the sunroof tray (so it will still open all the way) This seemed to be the flatest portion of the roof panel anyway. Then we welded that section to the underside of the seam where the two roof sections now meet. Make sense? and finished with filler.
The fuel cell was built by FuelSafe in Oregon. I sent them my factory pump, and they built a one-off cell for me. Caution, this was by far the most expensive part of the puzzle! Rear 1/4 glass is now plexi.
I have a collection of pics somewhere, and will dig them up this weekend.

Life is too short NOT to cut your Rover in half. Just do it!

hell yeah... i'm gonna.. have you seen the piccy of it at the moment?? We got an off road event on sunday, lots of steep bomb holes etc. If the landy 90's leave me behind then its most certainly war!!!
I think i can source a fuel tank from somewhere but my only problem is the welding of the roof... hmmmm.
All in all how long did it take?? never mind the repainting etc.. I dont worry about paint work cos it gets so scratched etc.. so long as it looks reasonable.. :-)
What was the biggest cost other than fuel tank?? i dont need to worry about the pump cos mines a '78.
If you find any more piccys the please please mail/post them.
Thanks again.

About 150 hours....

Craig
P.S.
If I had started w/ a 2door like you, I would have bobbed the same amount, but probably would have ditched the rear passenger seats and gone open top or pickup...

Where do you live ? Looks like an english flat.. My family is from Belfast, now residing in Port Rush in the north..(I am the Alabama blacksheep) I'd recognize those worthless tiny windows and shrubbery anywhere,,,

I live in Winchester, which is in the south of England. http://www.cityofwinchester.co.uk/
Greenlane?? anywhere poss!! club website:
http://wessex.rainertech.co.uk/
Old man emu springs n shocks now fitted. I got lots of pics of the project from start to finish for those that are interested. In my opinion its well worth doing. Because mine has no need to be showroom condition it only took about 30 hours from start to finish. See how the car sits up better now with the new suspension. I had a few problems matching springs because the rear is alot lighter than stock. Looking forward to Monday, as the diffs are coming out and the lockers are going in. Yay!!!! :-) First real test is tomorrow (sunday). We got a club day at a local quarry! Lotsa mud, water and steep bits. Gonna give those 90 boyz a run for their money!!
JB - Do you have a bobtail or r u thinking of it??
