Just curious who you are and if you're local. You parked next to my new (to me) '99 Disco I (white/tan). I came out and saw yours. Fantastic Disco! Everything I want mine to be and more. I noticed your Discoweb.org sticker on it. I'd like to know more about it. I was pulling out when you were walking up with your daughter in your arms. Would have loved to talk to you but I had my son/wife with me and were in a hurry.

Care to tell me what all you have done to it? Did you find parts local or via the internet?

Todd
A Disco owner for 5 days now and loving it.

About all I did to it so far was buy it. :-)

See Rob, it's a small world.

Todd, as it is, I just got that Disco 7 days ago from Rob Davison out in PA. He and Kyle have done all the work you see on it except where I replaced a set of lights on top.

I have some plans but they'll have to wait a while and honestly it doesn't really need anything. Although that's not true, I was at Home Depot to get some nuts nad botls to attach the front license plate to the roller fairleads. Jeremy Katka pointed out that Maglight clips fit the Warn fairleads perfectly and he was right. For those of you asking why I did it, front plates are still "reguired" in Washington.

Funny that I'd actually see someone who posts on discoweb in a parking lot here in such a Land Rover Soccer Mom saturated place. After home depot I took my Jeep GC down to Mill Creek to get some gas and I kid you not, there were 4 Discos in the parking lot (and a small lot by grocery store standards) and before I left I saw 2 more.
You were the only one today who waved or said Hi. :-)

It is certainly nice.

PWC, sorry you have to park next to my "Mall Crawler/Soccer Mom Transport". Damn I wish I had the money to make some changes. Oh, well. The mud flaps and running boards are coming off this week. I guess I can't complain. Without soccer mom's I wouldn't have my Disco.

If I sell my running boards, brush guard, and bumper maybe I can scrape enough money together to put an ARB bumper on.

Stupid me. I saw a Disco similar to mine on the way home and waved. The guy looked back at me like I was on drugs. I guess they just don't have the same following as my old Jeeps.

I'd love to take a closer look at your truck some day. Are you going to BCC this weekend?

yeah toss those 2 items up on ebay and you will get more than a few bucks. a new ARB will set you back about $575......selling those 2 items should put you there.

man that Disco is getting around. a new twist to the word DiscoHo. PA and now the pacific NW. damn.

kinda reminds me of what is happening with the racoons at my parents house. my dad keeps trapping them (they are eating all the koi and tearing up the garage) and he takes them 10 miles away and they keep coming back. the same 2.
could this happen to a Disco? never know......some day it might find its way back. least you know where it is and that it's not being driven by some punk.
maybe peter can send you pictures around the holidays.

I'm got armed midgets watching the place, high up in the trees with sniper rifles.

Idaho is pretty nice and the truck made it here with no problems. The CEL didn't come back on Jeremy so I think it just needed some new plugs.

In comparison to my trip to QFC, I only saw two other Discos on the way out here. One was going through Spokane and we were both in the passing lane on I-90 and I waved and thought he waved until I realize, and I'm not making this up, he was just lifting his Starbucks' cup and taking a drink. I did get a look from the other guy though. And stares from people at this "posh resort" as I took down the Pelicans parked right next to two other Discos. One of those had the rear step I was thinking of.....hmmm....and I have a full set of tools with me....

damn,

cruising with the pelicans and everything... full expedition mode? you know with the 4 cans up top, the small sized action packer fits between the cans perfect. hehe

Todd,
No, I'm not going to be at ABFM this weekend but we can get together one of these weekends in mid Ausgust. My schedule is a bit busy until then. To be honest I saw the running boards and thought "yeah, nuther Soccer Mom (not that that's a bad thing because my daughter may be playing soccer in 6-7 years and I'm sure my wife will drive her once in a while)". That oughta make ya get rid of the boards quicker. :-) I'll get in touch with ya after the first week in August. But damn son, get that garage a little more messy!!!

Garrett, Yes it WILL probably make it back to PA one day. When my daughter can take a longer roadtrip we really want to enjoy a trip across the country and my wife's family is all in PA (Manheim and Lititz and something else that's really long and ends in -ville). We would definitely be stopping by Rob's on the way through. To return the chewing gum. When I do something worth while to take pictures of, I'll send them in to Ho.

And Rob, well not quite "full" expedition. I had the Pelicans filled with tools and fluids.....and then a stroller strapped to the back part of the top. :-) Should have got a picture of it, made me real macho. "Yeah, I was driving down in Guatemala on my way to some ruins through some PRETTY rough country. If I didn't have that little 8 wheeled, independent front suspension and steering stroller (with sun visor) who knows...I might still be stuck in the jungle." No needs for the cans on this trip, plenty of cell coverage and I just renewed my AAA+. My wife's in a meeting this whole week and I'm looking after my daughter during the day. We may just take it some place to get you some nice photos.

Peter,

Boards cam off last night. Now if I could just figure out how to remove the rear mud flaps. Do I need to cut them?

Look forward to hearing from you.

By the way, where do you live in these parts (general area). Not that I was going to do some late night parts shopping, cust curious.

The flaps are riveted on s oyou need to cut them or drill out the rivets. I'd be cautious about it and check out the DMV's website about it. I got pulled over in my FJ-40 once and the guy explained I needed flaps that came down to at least half way down the tire. Not sure what the actual law is.

I'm near Mill Creek/Silver Lake/Lynnwood/Marth Lake. :-)

Todd - just add mud! Take off that front air dam, (got the boards yaaay), and ditch those rear mud flaps. you'll probably have to drill out the rivets. be prepared to replace the rear "resonator" muffler that extends just underneath and forward of the rear bumper. Welding on a straight pipe is about a $25 dollar job at your local muffler shop (avoid Midas).

Only mod I would suggest is to buy a front differential protector. Besides that, we just need to get you out one of these days and have some fun. I'm sure there will be another group going out here in the next couple of months.

for me, knowing that I could keep up with most of the local toyotas and miscellaneous poseur rigs riding on 33's in a mostly stock vehicle is worth keeping its starbucks image! Your stock disco is more equipped for the trails the way it sits than you might think. Drive it off-road a few times, and then figure out what mods you want from there.

I can say that at the stoplight, nothing intimidates other SUV drivers more than noticing a bunch of trail induced pinstriping, along with hints of long dried mud in the fenderwells. Missing end caps kinda gives it away too. A leaned out stock rig with a few battle scars is much cooler looking than a shiny, jacked up, tricked out truck, IMO. So get the scars first ;)

cheers,

Isaac, What does "bypassing" the rear resonator on the D1 do to the sound level? mine's rattling with loose stuff on the inside and I would love to ditch it if it doesn't add noise. Thanks.

cant tell the difference, hack that thing off at a local muffler shop and have em extend the pipe, in and out for $30 probably.

Thanks guys, that resonator will be terminated with extreme prejudice...
