Have a couple questions about my Disco.
There are two LED lights on the rearview mirror. One lights up when you hit the autodim mirror (the one on the left), what is the other for?
Secondly, are there any aftermarket CD stackers that work in conjunction with the sotck head unit or do I need to get a LR CD player?
Lastly, when I remove my running boards it appears as though the front mudflap is part of the running board. Is running a front mud flap suggested once it is removed? If so, what do they run?

I believe the "led" on the right is actually a light sensor to dim the mirror.
You will need to get a LR CD player. LR uses a Pioneer cd changer but there is some special chip or circity that makes sure that you use a LR stacker. There is a 6 disk in the US I have seen a 12 disk on ebay also
get rid of the front mud flaps, you will probly tear em off sooner or later.

yep check ebay. there are always some on there. alpine made some of the units for LR too. |

Todd,
Truthfully I looked into getting a factory 6 disc for my radio and it just was not worth it. Land Rover has special outlets on the back of the radio and wiring that does not allow it to work with any other disc changer except factory. Even the pioneer ones or whatever it is the land rover uses do not work because they are not "factory." I too wanted to keep that original look of keeping the factory head unit in but I decided it was not worth it. I opted for a aftermarket Eclipse head unit cd player that I later added on a voice command and GPS navigation to with the radio. I personally enjoy being able to change the disc without geting out and walking around and changing the discs, especially on road trips. Unless you find a cheap used rover changer, in my opinion it just isn't worth it. |

I am assuming you have a D2 with an Alpine Head unit. If that is the case you can do it yourself for @ $300. I purchased the Alpine 6 disc CD changer for @ $200 from some dot.com. I seached the world over only to find that the interface adaptor could be ordered through my local circut city store. The trick was looking woeful at the dealership and asking a friendly mech to use his two special little tools to unlock and pull the head unit out about 1/2 way. I drove home with the head unit 1/2 out, spent about 2 hours to neatly install the cd changer under the seat, run the adaptor wiring inside the tunnel, up to the back of the head unit, unplugged the appopriate connector from the head unit, plugged in the adaptor...slid it all into place and voila..works just like the factory unit...steering controls and all.

I believe you should be able to find an adaptor for your head unit as well. Try this link:

look in their site map for the cd changer interfaces. Also, if you have a circuit city nearby with the audio installation service, these guys may already have it in stock (or as they did for me order it from the manuf.). As I recall before I had to wheel over to the LR Dealer, the tech at Circuit City was puzzled at not being able to use his special tools to unlock and slide my head unit out. He said he had done several older Discos..Good luck with your search, there is definitely something out there and you should be able to do it for sub $300 in a little less than 2 hours. |
