I only got one key with my D1 which makes me a little nervous. I did not get the key code so I need to have a set cut. Can the stealer do this? I am affraid to find out what they want for a key if they can.

Thanks,
Todd

most key shops can make a spare for. if you want it to look official get the 'blanks' from the dealer or some other source and have them or your local shop cut them. there is nothing special about my '96 D1 keys.

Tried a couple shops and no one had the blanks. That's why I asked about the dealer. I keep checking around.

Thanks,
Todd

you can get the blanks at your dealer, ebay and other rover sites. dealer can cut or have ordered or you have take them to a local shop. should not be too hard.

Get you blank for some third party ie discountrovers rn or someone then take it to Homedepot.... The guy had a bit of a hard time with mine because the key is so long. Once I showed him how to line it up on his machine he cut it for free.

Todd,
My dealership cut them for free for me however I had to get a future one done and it was 6.50 and took ten minutes. Most dealerships have the tool to cut the keys, and they are also the genuine discovery key.

Would the Gas tank lock key work in the ignition? I'm wondering because it's a smaller and less annoying key. I actually modified the drum of the gas lock to use the ignition key. has anyone else done that?

Huh??

I didn't have a gas-tank key, I always used the ignition key, FWIW.....

Ouch. Just got back from the dealer. Now I ahve first hand experience with what everyone is talking about with the local dealer.

$21.50 for the blank and to get it cut. What a rip.

I would have bought from someone else but did not want to rist not having a spare any longer than I had to.

Lesson learned.

By the way, my ignition and gas door also are the same key.

ouch is right. did they wash and wax the truck too? haha. i think i paid $6 for the genuine key and a few bucks to have it cut. or get a generic all steel key and be out the door for about $3-4.
and yes the ignition key is the same for the gas. least that is what i have seen on both my D1's.
i was at LR Harrisburg last week and was checking out prices while my girlfriends D2 was getting serviced. they wanted $650 for a pair of Hella 3000's installed. can you say "bend over." just found that amazing.

I was at my local stealership last night getting my Freelander Test Drive form signed so I can get my free Teva Shoes and I saw Hella 4K's lamp cover (the grill kind) and thought I'd ask out of curiosity. $45.00!!!
