Okay guys and gals...I need some help. My truck needs a name....all my other cars have had one, but so far nothing has spoken to me about this girl. She's a 95, Gold, and perfect (in the eyes of the beholder). You can see her pictures under my gallery...nothing fancy yet though.

So, any suggestions? And, I would love to hear how many people have names for theirs and the reasoning behind them!

I've never been much into naming vehicles although I know many who do (especially those I know through my BMW 2002).

My son however decided to name mine when he first saw it. Unfortunately his first reaction was, "Jeep!". I'd never told him what a Land Rover was yet but he can ID Jeeps.

Now he knows better and my '99 Disco I is known as "Grover".

He's 20 months old.

um, guys, she's looking for a girls names for the truck I think.

Sus, I think that the name will come to you in due time.. Some thing will happen and then you'll have the name. Mine has no name. I call it a few things some times but, it doesn't have name.

I had a friend in college whose car was a real POS...they called it GROVER for Ghetto Rover because it was the same color as my other friend's red Disco, which was Red Rover. But Gold isn't that easy...

AND NO, NO GOLDMEMBER! I do need to see that movie though. Too funny.

Eric, but yours is GRNRVR right? My plate is 4THMTNS...maybe something related to that will work. My first car was a 79 Diesel Mercedes and it was green...so the name and plate was TURTEL!! It fit, seeing as those 5 cylinders MIGHT have put out about 50 hp!! :)

Todd, My daughter is 10 months old, she knows the difference between the Disco and our Jeep. I don't know if I want to hang out with you now.... :)

Sus, what about something dorky, like Klondike, or Yukon Cornelius or Mammon if you have a lot of Catholic friends?

ya, but, that is just what it is. a green rover. Not a name. Like Greg and his Winston or Kim and her Little Ricky. If I can call it and it comes to me then I give it a name. So until the Disco learns how to start itself and find me. It's not getting a name.

Dang PWC - give him some time. I am trying to get him acclimated to the four wheel drive stuff. He does know the ins and outs of my '68 2002 Track Rat though. He's also been appropriately trained to call my friends '97 Firebird the "Firechicken". Much to his dismay...

We call ours Pearl, it's just something that my wife thought of that fits my Disco's Chawton White color. So, hence she was christened with the name Pearl.

I agree with Goldmember, but like Eric said, you wanted a girl's name so that wouldn't be right. (The movie is so funny though, you guys gotta see it...especially the intro)

Well, I searched a thesaurus and have some ideas.

Sunny, Sandy, Sunshine, Aurelia (which is the feminine Latin name mening golden), Aurum(latin for gold), Oro (Italian for gold), Dorato (italian for gilded), Gold Brick :) , Goldeneye...

My vote is for Clementine,

The lyrics and song are in reference to a gold miner and his daughter during the San Francisco Gold rush of 1849.

My chawton white DII is named Tux, the second I looked at the disco I knew that it was going to be Tux. (it's a Linux thing)

just give it time, she'll let you know her name. do you have any interests or anything that could lend a name, like something from greek mythology just as an example. if it were me, i'd do more than simply give it a name that states the color, but that's me. my Disco is nameless for the moment as well, but i think she's going to be called Moya. my Jeep's name is Orion because one of my favorite things to do is stargaze and there was a place in Blacksburg that was great for it and you needed a 4WD to get there. oh, and by the way, i think i saw you out towards Madison Heights last friday. i didn't get closer than 200 yards though, so i couldn't see the lisence plate. it looked like the Disco in your gallery, but i couldn't be sure.

I guess some names are instantaneous and others take time. I must be anthropomorphic because I have names for lots of inanimate objects!

Mantaray, that was probably me. There aren't too many gold Discos in town atleast not Series I. I was out that direction going to Wal-Mart (MISTAKE!). I saw two Discos on my way out...a green one with ladder and A-bar...which I see quite often...and a black one heading into town. I always wave...but no one responds! :(

Paul, Discos are DEFINITELY sexy! Though a Ferrari 456M would probably top it!!!

Sus, I named mine Winston for two reasons;

1. Just didn't think a feminine name would match the look of my Disco.

2. Color is Blenheim Silver. So therefore, his name is Winston after Churchill. Get it?

Anyway, I thought it was a good fit. Don't worry, you'll know the right name when you hear it.

Sus - cool. i was trying to catch up to see if it was you, but there was way too much traffic. i was on my way out of town going to NOVA. i wave at other discos too, but i've only ever had it returned once. i had a guy in a Jeep wave at me today. trying to figure that one out. i have a reflex to wave at Jeeps until i realize i'm not driving the Jeep at the moment. :) oh well, a wave is a wave. it's all good. :)

Men in pickup trucks wave at me more than Disco drivers in town! It's funny! Jeep people always wave...but I don't think they have the soccer mom stigma like we do now (well, maybe the Grand Cherokee).

Kai, too funny. But I can't keep something I'll get rid of...atleast not a Land Rover. I had an Explorer (pos) during college that I traded when I got the Disco...no sad feelings there. But my Mercedes was another story...I think I cried. So, I guess the naming factor plays a part!

Is my car Roman Bronze? Does anyone know...if so I could go with a Latin or Italian name?!

If I were to name my Disco it would have to be called "Turtle". It's green, it's slow, it's got a pretty good armor/shell on it, it goes pretty much where ever (just takes a while to get there), it likes mud, eats a lot of green, and if I roll it over onto it's back it will flounder helplessly till rolled back over again. Hey, I think I just got a name for my Disco.

Manataray - I,ve seen your Disco out before. You did wave and I returned. I think I know the green DII you saw Sus. Anyone know the white DI with the winch. I see it in the Boonsboro area quite a bit. The driver always waves.

PeterN,
How many miles do you have on yours? So far (knocking on wood) she's been very good to me....but she only has 63K on the clock. I got the maintenance history from the dealer and she had a lot of work done under warranty...I'm hoping her first owner took care of everything for me! I've only replaced the rear resonator since I bought her...but I do have a few 'noises' that could be addressed...

Armada Gold? That's funny.....Spanish inquisition influences the British builders in Solihull?!

LOL, I swore I'd never give the truck a name (was having a hard time bonding with it for awhile). Then it just happened ... The name "Ricky" came about out in the desert - It was about the 4th time I'd had it offroad, still wasn't sure of it's (read *MY*, LOL) capabilities. A few of the folks on this board witnessed it. I did a "Lucy Ricardo" manuever (Lucy of the desert). I decided to avoid one particularly long steep hill. I decided to find another way to get up to the butte. I was told to try going to the left, but I went to the right. I ended up taking a much more difficult hill (hey, it was shorter, LOL) and trail (the "Lucy Trail"). Naturally, I got a little lost. Poor Steve followed me, and I think he did some damage to his truck on that one. So, I get on the CB - it was something that sounded like, "wah, wah, Ricky I think I'm lost. Ricky, help me out please. wah" A very dear man in a certain green Defender and my husband Greg rescued me, but they made me come to them. Anyway, the truck performed wonderfully for me, thus the name Ricky was born. I know it's lame, but, it is what is, LOL. I take a lot of flak for this ... :)

Kim
And it's NOT Ricky as in Ricky Martin, Kyle! :)

Sus, we're in the same ball park, my '95 has 68k. Unfortunately mine has been troublesome, but doing all the repairs myself has kept cost down.
Perhaps ARMADA is to commemorate the English Navy's victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588. England and Spain were vying over control of trade in the New World. King Philip VIII of Spain ordered the Spanish Armada to attack the English Navy. Queen Elizabeth I, one of the most powerful women in history and only 25 yrs old at the time, visited the English Navy in-person and gave an inspiring speech to boost the sailors' morale, who were outnumbered and in smaller ships. The rest was history. The English Navy went on to inflict heavy losses on the Spanish Armada, of which only a few ships managed to survive the counter-attack and returned to Spain.
The English's supremacy in the new world went on unchallenged for years to come. Cheers!

Well, I finally took her to my fiance's parents' cabin (in the woods...sing the song) and got to really try her out 'off road.' It's a dry river bed most of the way in and she was SOOO great to drive. I didn't know it was that easy...and MUCH better than RIDING down in there. She was remarkably smooth (compared to his dad's F250!) and I really had a great time. After doing so, the name Ora really stuck to me. Something between Aurie (for gold), Oro(gold) and Ora which actually means light.

So, I guess she only 'talks' to me when she's in her element!! Atleast now we've got some dirt on the tires and some miles under the belt. Although I did get a big stick stuck in my running board. I now know why people take them off!

Thanks to everyone for the fun post and ideas! :)

Sus,

I have a Blenheim Silver D2, and I named her Misty. The color reminds me of the mist rising off of a lake in the morning chill. I chose a feminine name because of the characteristics of the vehicle, Disco IIs work with you when you drive, like a relationship. Aston Martins are the same way.

Some other cars, like Porsches, like to challenge you, it seems they are saying "I dare you to drive faster", a trait that I attribute to men mostly.

For yours, I don't know...

I might be inclined to name her Inca or Maya, in referance to their beautifle golden jewlry and arts, whose luster matches that of her paint.

Perhaps Andea (ahn-day-a), in referance to the Andes, the mountains in which the Incan people reside.

I like the name you picked, though...Ora. It's definition and permutations of that in other languages seem fitting, and it sounds right too. It's also important that you name her, because it makes it a little more personal. Hmm, it's almost like her name means golden light.

Good job :)

Cheers,

Kennith

Well, for what it's worth Sus, I ended up naming my '01 white (Pig) Disco "Landrace" which happens to be a breed of white pig. Not as glorious as your name or others, but I kinda agree with Paul that it is sort of a pig. Big, heavy, slow, likes mud, etc, etc..........

So, I searched for something that captured that and came across a listing for a breed of white pig, mainly in eastern europe I believe, but can't swear to it.

So, my white 2001 Disco II is officially named: Landrace.
