I have a '95 calssic swb and after 1 year of owning it now I have had my first problem with it. The sunroof will open all the way and close but will not crack open at the top once closed. I took it to the dealership to see what was wrong with it, and the drive and chain is broken. there was an estimate of $600+ to fix the damn thing! Anyone else have this problem with theirs? I didnt see the need to get a warranty on the rover since it is very easy to fix classics in our own garages, but i dont want to try and fix somthing like that (safe call there). Later, Jeff |

The 95 classic is a real nice car. Unfortunately the sunroof really is a dealer item. You can buy an electrical trouble shooting manual and a workshop manual or the truck. But even I wont touch the sunroof(my shade rattles and i found the part that fell off the track). If you live in a big city there may be sunroof specialist which would be cheaper or better skilled than the LR dealership. Randall |

the little plastic thingie that gets snapped off of the glass rear lift unit when hit while opened, driving under the garage door is to blame? wife has done this twice! $ 10.00 in parts & an afternoon of aggravation can have it sorted out with minimal blood loss. lesson; have roofs closed while offroading & when garaging. |

The sunroof cassette consist of a few parts. The glass itself is moved by two flexible screws. In order to replace the drive system, you may have to remove the entire cassette out of the vehicle. This is very easy to do once the headliner is removed. Which is also very easy to do, just cumbersome. Assuming you're absolutely sure that your drive mechanism is indeed toast. For some pics of the sunroof w/o the headliner, check out: http://community.webshots.com/user/alia176, click "interior stuff". Sorry but I didn't take any pics of the guide rails and stuff. On pic #14, you can see the two (one black, other lt brown) color flexible drive housings. On the other hand, replacing the motor/gearbox arrangement can be done in situ w/o removing the entire beast out of the vehicle. The RR workshop manual does a nice job of detailing this. |
