We were up your way today, (well sort of, went as far as New Oxford), and I HAVE to ask....WTF is the trouble with negotiating traffic circles up there? There were "yield" signs, just like you would expect (yield to the driver IN the roundabout), but it was an endless clusterf***! We also noticed how many car sales outfits and car-related repair shops, body shops, etc. there are in PA (I'm holding you personally responsible for all this stuff, good and bad!). I couldn't help but think of you every time I saw a Yeungling sign, and that was often! DAMN, y'all sure do drink and do stuff to your vehicles, LOL! Had a fun day, but admit to having the heebee-jeebies a few times as I was reminded of my young days visiting the relatives in Philly, and other locales within your fair state.....

ok first off lets get the spelling of Americans Oldest Brewery right. Yuengling.....as in Dick Yuengling....our next president if things go right. ok.....at least a state senator.

New Oxford. i don't think you were far enough north or central either. i mean i am smack dab in the middle of this state. hills and mountains all around me.....oh and lots of farms, corn, college ladies, more corn and big ass trucks with nascar stickers from end to end. ugh.

traffic circles are notorious in NJ and not so much in PA. seems though folks can never really figure them out. not sure why because when designed properly and used properly they are great. i say we do away with all stop signs and use just yield signs!! i hate stopping. takes me too long to get my damn truck up to speed again.

what's this about "fair state"? you bustin' on all the locals eating corn dogs and eating scrapple??

HAHAHAHA, now you know I meant "fair", as in lovely, appealing AND stuffed with corn dogs!

I think roundabouts are the way to keep traffic flowing. They work in other countries just fine, and even work in Washington, D.C., which HAS to be the acid test. We were just amazed that in a three cow town like New Oxford it created such havoc. I'm mean, it's not like they only have a roundabout M/W/F, near as I can tell it pretty much sits in the town center 24/7. Same problem in Gettysburg, too, which was equally baffling. Hell, the carriage horses there seemed to know what to do...makes you wonder.

Oh, and I stand corrected on the spelling of the next President of the United State's name. As for scrapple, PEE U! Brain o' pigs, mixed with whatever else fell on the floor of the slaughterhouse that morning, frying in a pan, will definitely make me hurl. We ate at the Crosskeys Diner yesterday, and David commented on the nauseating episodic wafting of what he took to be the smell of eggs cooking. I didn't tell him until later it wasn't coming from the kitchen, but more likely coming from the escapees from the local nursing home, all of whom seemed to have found their way to the diner. One thing about native Pennsylvanians, they don't go to Florida to retire.

yeah i am pretty sure PA hosts the 2nd most old farts in the US. i mean state college itself has tons of old folks. lots of them are PSU alums and are coming back to retire here and go to games and hit on waitresses trying to relive their youth. kinda like me.

we try and use roundabouts in some of our masterplan work, but it freaks alot of folks out. slows traffic and keeps it moving at the same time. works well in smaller towns to keep those speedy folks from running over some Amish folks. and ya know me.....i've got a hankering for Amish ladies. meeeeow.

sorry to hear about the bad smells from that diner. gotta watch the locals. they will feed you rocky mt. oysters if you are not careful. mmmmmm.

kyle you hate PA or NJ? or both? i think i have seen a few signs on 322 that state "watch for DUI drivers" or "DUI inforcement zone". i mean i think most people drink and drive locally.....around town.....not on highways. but they are dumb signs. i always make sure to keep my eyes open for DUI drivers. yeah right.
wonder why the 'burgh attracts so many old codgers? must be all that IC Light beer and wealth of Caddy dealers.

PA is a great state! I travel up there all the time and love it...however, NJ I cannot stand!

Garrett,
You have to agree never to mention scrapple again! Please. My wife has relatives in PA and her grandfather is always eating scrapple and Ponhoss (sp?) or some crap like that. It gives me the shivers. Why not just set the trash cans behind the slaughter house on fire for 10 minutes and dig in with a spoon? Other than that, I got no complaints about PA. However, I didn't know until just recently that ring bologna was it's own food group.

pa the state in theory is fine, it is the network of roads and bridges that is the big problems,

well that and having to buy alcohol at the "state store" and beer from the distibutor. (not in hte gas stations)
