Why do people bash others based on the vehicle they drive? Threads like THIS frustrate me. If everyone were to drive a vehicle that fits their commute/daily driving 95% of the population would drive a Honda Civic or Toyota of some sort. Yuck. Sure that are a ton of Disco owners that never take their Disco off road. But without the soccer moms where would be buy such fine used vehicles? Todd - stepping off my soapbox now... |

Dude...re-read your post. You just bashed Hondas and Toyotas.... A little contradiction eh? -glenn |

Actually I'm not bashing them at all. If anything my intent was to compliment them. They are a fantastic car for someone who needs a reliable economical commuter. Heck, I even owned a Honda once (for about 90 days... I then sold it for a profit). Although IMO they are "YUCK". Todd |

Tom, I own a DS2 and I see nothing anywhere in that post that is incorrect from my point of view. There has been a lot worse Rover bashing on Pirates than that. Lets face it though - most Rovers are not driven by wheelers, but yuppie soccer moms. That is just the reality. Curtis |

I am inclinded to agree with the post. Most D2 and Rangie owners I see on the road never wave back or act like I am going to mug them if I get close enough. Chris von C. |

Todd, Almost every time I ask some one who has a DII how do you like your "Disco" I get the 30 seconds blank stare until the light comes on. And then I mention Disco Web and that really shuts down the gray matter. Oh is that a 70's music web site is the normal question I have even gone into the dealer and referred to my Discovery as a Disco and got the question which model. "Pioneer Centers in San Diego" |

I gave up waving... Almost no one waves around here stock or not stock and 90% or more of the Disco's and D90s in this area are soccer moms or yuppies that bought it to try and impress their neighbors and have never taken the things down as much as a gravel road much less a trail.. |

Todd, I think it is more about where you live then anything.. People in your neck of the woods might wave back. People here in Northern VA for the most part don't since Land Rovers are seen as more a status symbol then a 4x4. I get waves some times. Mostly from people in Jeeps and lifted Toyotas though. Not to many from folks driving Land Rovers. |

Todd, I'm not trying to flame you or anything , I do agree with you with the "wave" part. I just gave up waving all together. I only wave to the ones that looked like they've seen the dirt or are equipped to see the dirt, and of course to the ones that wave to me. As Eric N and everyone else stated, the plain truth is most of the people that drive LRs (specially D2s and RRs) drive them for the status symbol hence they have no clue about "the wave". Lately, I've been seeing tons of D2s on the road in my area (LR must be doing well in sales) that you would likely see several of them at a small store parking lot. -glenn |

I wave, I swear to god I wave. Often I get no wave in return, but I figure it's free and it's not much trouble to wave. So, if you see a bone-stock White Gold D2, give me a wave....with more than one finger, eh? Karen |

Ah the wave...that was my wifes first complaint when she got her D2 in Sept. of 99. We still have the old FJ62..I drive it on the weekends...canoeing , fishing etc....and without fail on those rare occaisions I cross paths with another FJ62...there is always a big wave and a grin. I think she'd be gald to have Paul flip her the byrd or any other D2 owner...at least she would know the other person is clinically alive ! lol |

i love tipping my starbucks cup. i rarely am in the truck without one LOL Most choose to ignore my small measure of rover fraternization by staring on through their dark (and oh so stylish) sunglasses . . . not that I don't sport my own pair of Maui Jims. Someone said they were going to start swerving. that would almost be funny. If you want waves get an old Porsche - everyone driving an old porsche gets a nice wave and a smile, and usually blinking headlights (damn - i leave this statement to the dark devices of D-Web). Like rovers however, there is generally no love from the 996/boxster crowd. "930? Is that like, the amount of horsepower or something??" cheers |

Waving - I try. I really do. There are so darn many Rovers around here. I'm starting to feel very foolish waving. Only one response in a year. LOL, well, at least I do have my Discoweb sticker displayed, even though I'm sure 99% of the people who view it think I am into disco dancing. (I can't stand disco music!!! LOL) Kim |

I do that too... There's a lady in a Defender around here, when she sees me in a Disco she'll wave, or if she passes the house while I'm tinkering on the Series.... but if I see her when I'm in the Roo, I'll automatically wave, but she doesn't see me then..... lol..... -L |

Hey, Todd, I think you missed the point. No one really cared about the vehicles driven, it was the attitude of those that drove them...... It's a free country, you can drive whatever you want, and you should not be faulted for it. I saw it in the short time that I spent while working at a LR dealer. I would pull up in my modified pig of a truck, which is in quite good shape, BTW, and get looked down upon by the driver of the grocery getter model for having done what I did to mine. That was the point I think, something about the lack of acceptance and comraderie. But hey, think what you want. It's a free country. |

My buddy just bought a '90 Miata. He started stripping the interior to race in the Spec Miata class. He was originally going to race F-bodies but opted to go this route due to cost and it is highly competitive and races are won by skill rather than HP. He asked me to help him find a car because I have bought and sold so many over the years. I made him a deal when I started to look. If I find it, I get to put a rainbow sticker on the back when he buys it. Needless to say the next day he bought a car I found for him... He now is trying to order the following license plate from the DMV. IMNTGAY - I doubt they will OK it. Followed by his new race team name. NTTAWWT Racing (Not That There's Anything Wrong With That) Todd |
