I just bought a new Disco 03' and being no stranger to Land Rovers, as I own a D90, I was curious to see if anyone knew if a CDL upgrade will be issued by LRNA in the near future?

While I haven't used the HDC, seeing how my supervisor doesn't want it to stray off the tarmac, I wanted the CDL. The dealer said no dice, but I did note in the instruction manual that it lists how engage/disengage the CDL? Plus, it pictures two key instruction plates that illustrate whether or not you should have CDL. I'm sure most of you are familiar with it, it's the plate right above the L/H range gear- shift. According to the literature mine indicates that I should have the CDL, however, it obviously doesn't have it labeled on the gear-shift (as with the D90’s) nor is it mentioned in any other aspect or vehicle literature. Anyone have any idea what LRNA is up to? I'd appreciate any clarity regarding this. Thanks!

Actually.. I'd just like to know if the 03' has the CDL bolt, even if it doesn't have a mechanism to engage it. My buddy is looking to buy an 03' but without CDL he won't do it. I just went through the $2000 pain of installing CDL on my 02 Disco. If the bolt is there on the 03' it is very easy to install the solenoid kit from Great Basin Rovers so that you can engage CDL.

alot of the 03s even have the direction plate in front of the "t/c" shifter indicating that the truck has cdl and how to engage it... but unfortunately, they do not. i do think they are all set-up for it, like 99-01 1/2 discos.. but dont take my word for it.

Hi all, on the question of CDL, first LRNA will NOT issue an upgrade for 2003, 2004s will have CDL (at least that is the talk now). Whether the T case is CDL capable depends on the date of manufacturing. Probably no 03 manufactured before Aug will have it. And after Aug it will be hit and miss (basically it depends on how many old T-cases the factory still needs to use up).

CDL on NAS 03 discos was a very close, we just missed out by a matter of weeks!

Interesting! So in order to view the CDL bolt would I have to rip open the console or can it be viewed if it's on an H-lift or otherwise? It's increadably easy for the D90, yet I know absoulutly Jack about Disco's!

As to the production number, we bought ours in mid to late July. I can't remember because I wasn't allowed to touch it for a while. But thanks for the information guys.

You can reach up between the front propshaft and transmission and feel around for the CDL stud. It's only about 1.5" high, and the plate surrounding it is attached with three bolts in a triangular pattern.
