at idle in my 89 Rangie the engine seems to have a little knocking sound. is that the timing chain or is it time for a tune up? any ideas? also I have a high pitch squeek coming from the front two wheels while driving, not braking, actually braking stops the squeek. hub bearings? axel bearings? any ideas on this one? How often does everyone grease their swivels?

I ended up needing the hub bearings replaced and the knock is a bad catalytic converter. Thanks anyway.

Bryan,

My cats were rattling and I just had both my cats replaced with Catco 6005 universal cats a couple of days ago, way cheaper than ordering the factory Y-pipe and two landrover cats, they just cut out the old ones and install new ones. Do a search, lots of good info here.

What about your O2 sensors, they obviously fit into the universals? Also you must of welded them yourself, not an option for me. Also I live in Colorado and I have called a couple muffler shops and they won't install a cat if you didn't buy from them because of some EPA paperwork they have to fill out for emissions. I don't know, but I saw those Catco 6005's on ebay for $45 a piece.

The O2 sensor screw whole is engine side of the cat. .. You might easily pay a good old boy welder some cash/kind to do the job - as long as you pass emmissions you are fine right ?

That paperwork sounds like $$BS$$ to me.

I had a muffler shop that sold catco universal fit mufflers install them. Call around for a muffler shop that sells Catcos and have them install them. The O2 sensors are not connected to the cats they are screwed into the exhaust pipes. On mine they just cut out the old muffler without affecting the 02 sensors and rewelded the universal cat to the pipe.

I bought a Catco 6005 for $45 off of the internet and I found a guy to install for $60. Not bad.
