I am looking at getting insurance from a new company and they asked if I had any kind of Vehicle Theft Recovery Device such as LoJack. Does anyone have this service or any other service similar to it? From looking at the lojack.com web site, it appears to be a traking beacon that can be activated if your car gets stolen. I asked the insurance company how much of a discount I would get and they told me up to 20%.

Any info you could give me on these types of services/devices would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have lojack on my DII and received a insurance break my car was delived with it so I don't recall what we paid for it. Since the car has never been stolen I can't say how well it works either. That being said if you are looking for a insurance break I am sure it's fine but for more security I would look into TeleTrac. With lojack you have to report your car stolen, if that happens at 2:00am by the time you wake up your cars is hours away. Some police agencys have lojack receivers in there cars and some don't in this senario if they do then it's not that bad but if they don't then lojack sends three vans out to your house and the canvase the area to triangulate on your car. (mabey more vans not sure but at least 3). Now with TeleTrac you pay a montly monitoring fee and your car get a GPS antennea and somthing hooked up to the ignition that can tell when the ignition has been by-passed. So if your car is stolen at 2:00am TeleTrac will know and find your car by GPS and you should have your car back in a matter of minutes.
Also don't let anybody tell you it doesn't matter if your car get stolen if you have insurance (especially as fast as rovers depreciate)You will find that the blue book of your car is usally far less then your pay-off.

Ken,

Thanks for the info. You bring up some good points. I tracked down TeleTrac's web site and from what it look like it is only offered in LA and Miami, I'm in Phoenix. Do you pay a monthly service fee for your LoJack service, or is it a one time fee?

Thanks again.
