Damn it!! Would you all stop talking about snorkles. You're giving me the same itch as the Engel thread did.

LOL, am i missing something, pete? that looks like a d-90 snorcle...

you want me to start butchering up my rangie.

yes, you need the snorkle before the engle. it will be cold enough out soon where you can just pack the stuff up on the roof and it will stay frozen.

a kool looking right is more important.

Ah crap, I was just looking at the year and not the model. This one should work or at least it looks like it fits.

I have better luck with the fridge. I showed the video on Safari's site and she still can't understand why we need a snorkle.

yopu need the snorkel for 2 reasons.

1) on road respect, most importantly.

you will find when you are heavey traffic cars will open a lane for you down the middle because they fear the snorcel.

2) opens up that whole area for a second battery. which the engel will thank you for.

3) that mumbo-jumbo about dust doesnt effect you and i who live in the moist environments. and water, well you got more things to worry about that the engine, though i dont think it is hindering you.

now, back to your advice, lol, man, take a look at your RR, the hood hangs down where the standard Safari Snork goest. that would look hideous.

i hate to admit it, but after looking at the mantec, i really think i could make my own and have the pipe bend at the muffler shop and some away looking pretty good. i'd still buy a precleaner, because i think it looks the best. that whole scoop thing is weird, i can se it howleing in the wind and shit.

that's the mantec. note how it enters thru the valance. after that some industrial flex hose should work.

looks like these folks sell any scoop i'd need though

Ok, now that I actually thought about it for a bit and got some sleep, you're absolutly right. But then again, I'm not worried about a snorkle on the RR, just the Disco.

And that's 3 points. :)

I find in traffic that cars already move out of the way. I doubt I'd use the snorkle much in which case I'd just feel like a poser.

Rob - you poseur... seems you would just ding the side panel exactly where the hole would go for the snorkle - then claim vandalism and get some insurance money then cut out that exact ding to feed through the snorkle through to the engine bay and buy whatever snorkle garbage you want with the insurance check....( $$ comprised mostly of our increased rates due to turds like you ;)

voila, et le poseur et pres de partir.

LOL, man

i do not see a staight panel on my truck, hmm maybe one...

okay just got back, not one straight panel.

so i guess i would need to get full coverage first, then report the ding.

oh, and dont think that i'm not crooked enough to do this.... just you wait and see.

in my opinion, ANYONE that has a snorkel on a rover V8 is posing,,, so i'm in good company :)

I wanted a safari when I bought a snorkel for my rangie but they dont make one, so I ended up with the mantec. Only thing I don't like is the scoop faces backwards which kinda restricts airflow. It would be a lot better for my gas mileage if it faced forward like the safaris do. Other than that, it works great, and I have a second battery for my winch :)

Has anyone removed their drive side outer front body panel to see if it's possible to run a 3" tube down the length of it? I like Mantec's concept quite a bit (vs Safari's outer ABS piece)but still would rather make my own. Is Mantec using 3" or 2" diam tubing? Also where does one get the tubing and have it mandrel bent? I can think of exhaust shop off the top of my head. I s'pose this should work, no?

Secondly, the "ram" air effect does seem plausible due to 1) sort of a force induction at higher speed 2)cooler air intake. However, what size tubing is best for this? 2" would produce a higher velocity but 3" would produce larger quantity of fresh air. The Safari brand air intake up top is sized for a 3" tubing I believe. How does a 3" size tubing look on the side of the A pillar?

Thirdly, are those of you with a Safari style front facing intake experiencing lots of bugs/crap ingress into your air filter housing? Is this a big deal? West coasters prolly don't see too many bugs I imagine! I know centrix/ donaldson makes pre-cleaners for the trucking industry, however, can this remove the "ram" air effect totally? Since we don't have hundreds of thousands of miles on our air filters like the truckers, then I s'pose a pre-cleaner isn't necessary unless you off-road heavily in dusty areas.

Just thinking out loud.

One of my question just got answered by Shortbus in the achive. Turns out that we have too many 90 deg angles on the snorkel air path & inconsistent tubing sizes thatlead to less than steller positive pressure on the intake. In short, no real appreciable ram air effect. Worked great on my mustang though!

as soon as my exhaust parts come in next week, i am going to the muffler shop.

i will ask to see what the guy has in the way of dia and quality of pipe, i figure i'll get it bent and then just keep it in hte garage until i get around to it or find something nicer.

I just looked in my dealer book (ARB/OME/IPF) and there's no RR Snorkel listed, just the Disco and Defender...
