Dear Gang,

I realize that I've asked some seemingly mundane questions in the past couple of days pertaining to 2000 model Range Rovers. However, I have a perdicament that I need some help with that continues to plague me.

For the past couple of years, I've been wanting a used Range Rover. I recently decided that a 2000 4.0 model best fit me because of the side airbags and slightly refreshed exterior and interior. Also, I want a particular color (Kent Green) that was first offered in 2000. I asked a dealership specializing in used Land Rovers to find this vehicle for me. They recently called as they had located one with low mileage that was a "County" model. As I presumed the "County" to be the more upscale trim level for the RR (as it was with the classic RR's), I said sure and put down a deposit. The vehicle is in transit to their dealership, but I've seen photos which show it to have lights and exterior cosmetics resembling a 1999 model. This perplexed me and prompted some of the questions I've posted here as well as a call to another Land Rover dealership.

What I learned is weird and my sources have contradicted each other. Apparently, the "County" trim level is an early 2000 model 4.0 that was actually a lower trim level rather than a premium one as I had thought. Not only doesn't it have the outer aesthetics of the normal 2000 model RR's, but one source told me it doesn't even have a Bosch engine management system!

Now I'm completely confused and destrought as I've already put a deposit on the vehicle. If any one out there knows any thing about the 2000 "County" 4.0 and what it includes, I would be incredibly appreciative for any insight that you can provide. Specifically, does this model include side airbags, Bosch engine management, and interior/exterior appointments consistant with other 2000 model RR's?

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this long posting.

1999 was the crossover year for bosch so all 2000s should have bosch.

I have never heard of a county in 2000

A 4.0S in 1999 would have the GEMS system.

the county was an early 2000 Range Rover. Yes, it has Bosch, yes, it has side airbags, and yes it still has the orange lamps. The only real difference is that it has a Lightstone interior which was never offered on a 4.0. Lightstone was a 4.6 interior only. Thats it man, oh and the "county" sticker on the back. They came in Kent Green, White Gold, and Black. They also did not have the chrome tailgate release or the chrome ebrake button. if the lack of the aformentioned chrome items, or the orange lights bother you, you can always buy the clear corners and taillights and everything else to update it to a "later" 2000 Range Rover.

On the 4.0 vs County, the early 2000 model year had the basic '99 Bosch 4.0 specs with 16" wheels, and 1st generation headlamps (non-masked)and clear fogs in lower valence, amber turn signals on all 4 corners, amber repeaters, and black mirror housings, old style inside mirror (Curved vs straight at base), and non-darkening outside mirror glass. The 4.6 HSE interior was used (Most consider this stone interior an upgrade), non-leather covered brake handle and side bolsters along the sides of center console, and black cubby box lid.
