Now that football season is once again upon us the Disco will be spending the weekends in the garage and off the trails. Currently looking for a well-priced Lexicon DC-2 and NT512 to go with my new TV. There's got to be someone else on this board that invests as much cash in their home toys as in their trail toys. Anyone getting rid of their DC-2 in favor of the MC-1 or MC-12? Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Joe

Joe,

You might want to check out these web sites,

www.audiogon.com Great place for used hi end audio equipment.

www.hometheatertalk.com Great forum with really nice people REALLY into home theater.

Or try www.audioreview.com and look in it's classifieds. I've sold a bunch of my old home theater stuff on that site.

I'm in the process of redoing my HT, bought a wide screen HDTV set last year, but after buying the disco, just don't have the money for the speakers and seperates now. What's in your setup?

Zak, my excuse to spend money on the HT is "Honey, think of all the money we could save if we don't need a sitter to see a movie when we can get the same experience at home." It worked back in 1998 when I picked up my first HDTV. With your new addition you might be able to get away with it too. :)

Very true, i'll have to use that line Al. Thanks. One night a few months after we bought our tv, my wife and I were at the movies, and she told me she's glad we bought the tv, that she likes it better than going to the movies now. I almost cried of joy!!!!

Just trying to figure out how to upgrade my speakers to Totems or DynAudio's, and a new component system and we'll be set!!!

You could also try posting it in the classified at avsforum.com.

Zak-

Thanks for the leads. Not much of a setup currently. Just got a Pioneer Elite Pro-520 HDTV, hooked up to my old onkyo 5.1 receiver and bose speakers. Looking to move to separates (the aforementioned Lexicon amp and processor) for the right price as well as DefTech bipolars...

Since you're on the topic...I have to plug Transcendent Sound. I've built 3 of the kits so far (preamp, T16 and Balance power supply) and could not be more pleased. We have the mono-block factory built T8_LN OTL that we use now for everyday audio/HT. Bruce is truly a pioneer in the industry and is getting quite the following. I've even unplugged my Proceed AVP/AMP5 combo in favor of a two-channel rig (T8-LN monoblocks and GG preamp) for HT.

Wow!
You guys are mak'n me weep. My 12 year old 50" Mitsubishi (in a fine-furniture solid oak cabinet with folding doors) is sounding very out dated even with its S-video, multiple cable connections, multiple video/audio inputs and outputs. I have it connected to a Pioneer VSX-452. Bought that 50" rear projection tv back when Top Gun was the only surround-sound video available.... watched it over and over and over. The surround sound setup I have is probably not up to your standards but I like it ! and the images are still great... no convergence problems.

I've been studying the HDTV news and I'm gonna wait either until my tv quits or the powers that be really agree on a HDTV standard/format and quit blocking out the computer monitor folks who've had high definition for many moons. Is it 2004 that is the deadline for HDTV conversion ?
Lots of time for changes and tv/monitor improvements.

Michael

Thanks for that link; TS seems to have an excellent product. What speakers are you driving? Were the kits really that well organized for assembly?

Again, great link! I am thinking of building one.

Michael:
I can't say enough about Bruce's kits, or even his designs. I wouldn't start with the OTL kit, I'd start with the preamp or the power supply. I just received the power supply the other day, had it done in about 2 hours, worked perfectly, of course, I didn't miss a solder! Took me about 5-6 hours to do the GG preamp (I've done two of those) and the T16 OTL monoblocks took about 22 hours (I went very slow). I would highly recommend Bruce's book "Audio Reality" if high-end audio is one of your hobbies.

I have two different speaker sets:
1. Hammer Dynamics SUper 12s (kit) with only minor mods to the "stock" version, external x-over box. Hammer Dynamics Story

2. Von Schweikert VR-8. I was "lucky" enough to get Albert's last "old-style" cabinet set before he went under (literally, his shop flooded) and he resurrected. These in combination with the T8-LN has halted my quest, if you know what I mean.
