I just wanted to thank everyone who has given me input so far on what have been simple things to most of you but a learning experience for me.

This weekend I managed to change my rear brake pads. The books and diagrams are great but it is the input you all have given me, like the hi-temp grease tip, that you only get from someone who is experienced.

I also fixed my cruise control... it was a bad hose and even though I had looked them over fairly well, one had a crack on the underside that must have been enough to fail.

The biggest bear this weekend was installing a new radio antenna. I had ordered a replacement (non-OEM) powered antenna and went to work. Off with the wheel and fender access panel. Thats when I realized that if there had ever been a powered antenna in the vehicle before I bought it, there were no signs of it now. No antenna wire, harness or anything. It took me 4.5 hours to do the job. I had to remove the ECF and washer fluid resevoir to locate the firewall grommet, lube up the antenna plug and push it through where it met resistance on the other side because of whatever box is attached just in front of it in the passenger area. A lot of cussing and fussing and it finally was pulled through.

It took forever to find the little plug receptor for the antenna in all that mess. It would have been nice if the former owner had either replaced the damn thing or left the antenna wire in so I could find it.

Ohh well, my intro to DIY mechanics went pretty well even if it took me longer than it should have. I do have a bone to pick with whoever put my lugs nuts on so tight that I had to use a breaker bar and 4 foot pipe to loosen them. (Yes I checked to make sure the alloys showed no signs of stress or cracks). 90 foot pounds my ass. At least it happened at my house and not on the road or trail with a flat.

Once again, thank you all, thank you D-web and Lucas, I've got something for you as well. LOL

Steve
