listen to what the man says. get your priorities straight!!! running out of beer is kinda like going limp halfway through 'it'. ya dig? haha.
yeah the usual. tools, straps, d-shackles, flashlights, jack(s), tents, tarps, stoves, extra gas, water, work gloves, shovel, jackets (might be a bit chilly), boots, coolers, etc. oh and lots of beers for me. thanks. :)

ps: this place is far from just about everything. you don't want to have to go off in the middle of your day getting beer or gas.

I'm glad you said that. I was going to ask. I don't have much time to get good gas cans. I was planning on doing more riding and drinking than driving. LOL

So once more I'll offer my services as official passenger for someone riding solo. (yeah, i'll take an easy trail while i'm there but i'd like to be in the middle of a situation where i can learn from others sort of thing)

All the usual camping supplies, plus a complete tool kit, tent heater, and warm clothes. Froze my ass off last time during the night!

Drinking and sharing a small space with another warm body (or a dog) can make all the difference!!!

Beer, Beer,1 bag of chips, beer, and of course some good scotch.

Steve, You can ride shotgun with me. Your duties will include beverage and camera operator! However, I am not responsible for the comments and jokes that come out of the CB, especially during night operations. :)

Anybody else coming out of the Mid-Atlantic early Friday morning? Greg and I'll will be rolling out of Philly looking to link up.

Garrett, that was such a non-PC statement about the homeless. I'm laughing my ass off. The other day on the highway off ramp on the way to my office, some homeless dude had a cardboard scrap that read, "Why lie, need money for beer"

Sus, I think you revved up Garrett's motor with your statement about sharing space with a warm body. Unfortunately he'll wake up hungover, naked, with the dog.

Paul: Comments and jokes aimed at me for wanting to ride or just in general? I used to be a freelance photog so I can swing that and I've got long arms for those deep cooler reaches.

I'm planning on leaving early Friday morning from the Eastern Shore. We could hook up somewhere depending on your route. If you are coming down 301 to 50, we could meet on this side of the Bay, if you are going another route, we could meet somewhere between Annapolis and the Beltway.

Seriously.... where does one purchase a "safe" tent heater ? The night temps are already getting into the 40s here in VA.

Some years back local Boy Scouts died, in their tents, from an improperly functioning "tent heater".... so having a safe heater is very important.

I'd suppose that Coleman and other such camping equipment companies sell tent-safe heaters.
If someone out there has one they especially like.. please let the rest of us know about it.

Mark

Steve, Comments and jokes are known to fly on a whim. Nothing aimed at you dude. Let's just say that after 3 hours you will have heard lines from every movie comedy produced since the 70's. Got to watch out for Garrett, that boy aint right! At Uwharrie, Jason and I took a nice couple from SC out on a night ride and I think they were taken aback from all the "luv" dispensing from the cobra! It's all good.

Greg and I talked last night about the route down. As of now, we are talking a 6am launch out of philly. I hit the 13/301/50 route all the time headnig into Southern Maryland. I am sure we can work something out.....

Garrett,

Last night at Cunninghams, they did not have any Abita Turbo Dog leftover. According to the Bartender, Greg and I drank it all. So to compensate for our emotional loss, we received free Yuengling hats and t-shirts!

Sorry to hear about the Hangover. I am feeling great!!!:)

Feeling great here too. Bummed that it's going to get up to 80 today though, it was a nice drive in at 52 degrees with the windows down and the tunes going.

Yeah, no turbo dog left in Conshohocken the man says. Damn it all to hell..............

Free T-Shirts and Hats rule. :)

Garrett, if you are planning on sleeping with Evan this year, what is Jen going to do? I imagine it's Evan's hairy body that keeps you coming back. Soft and warm, but dude, you really should give that up.

Steve, when sounds come on the CB that frighten you, just put your fingers in your ears and pretend it isn't happening while saying ......... lah, lah, lah, lah.......... really loud, and it will all be over soon. :)

Mark: I picked up a Coleman BlackCat tent heater from Wal-Mart for $45. Puts out 3000 BTU and can run up to 8 hours from one of those small bottles.

Paul: Set the time and place and I'll be there with bells on.

LOL Blue... Its too funny when I wake up in the am after a rainy night and see all the water soaked campers I feel like Noa in his Ark..

Also when you break down in a Motor home are you really standed? We broke down once just north of the Golde Gate Bridge. The Highway Patrol came up to see if we need help and i told him no dinner was almost ready.. He gave me a weird look and walked away..

Bring:

Your own tow strap. I will be damned if the one we won for being least likely to make it home ever gets used. Getting stuck is no biggy but not having a strap or recovery points is bad form.

A picture of Alyssa's truck. Find it and you will find her. She will know where I am and I will know how to fix your truck and will probably have the spare parts and tools to do so. I always fix one of our trucks and at least one other one. If I cannot do it or don't have it I will know someone who does.

Acceptance of either getting a little body damage or learning self control.

body damage!?! I KNOW i'm not driving now - LOL

In all seriousness, I've got a D1 with factory bar and air dam. What should I do for front recovery? I've got the rear taken care of.

I'm talking quick and cheap here. I've got alot going on between now and MAR.

Ron
Posted on Friday, September 13, 2002 - 10:08 pm:   Edit Post Delete Post Print Post

do you still have the stock front loop? That will be ok, or just get a PAIR of shackles for the front brush bar. That and a tow strap and the rear warn reciever dealy or a class three hitch with a shackle in place of the ball will do nicely.

You can drive just go on the easy trails ie SELF CONTROL. I know I would take a bone stock disco on everything at MAR but I don't care if I wreck anything and I have a fiarly good idea of when to stop (I just ignore it).

I was thinking of doing the same with the airdam. Might wait til I get there so I don't look redneck driving through "Yuppy Alley". LOL

I'll have plenty of storage space in the tent. Yes, the tent with the wussy heater. Its an 8-man and I'm going solo. I was also planning on bringing the usual assortment of tools for any onsite purchases.

Tents and tent warmers? I guess this is a Right Coast thing that I cannot relate to.

Whatever happend to passing out on your front seat after drinking enough booze to kill a lesser being, smoking cloves (you DO NOT smoke:)),while listening to that Oingo Boingo CD that you have not heard since high school?

Granted - waking up at 5:32AM with wet pants, a hangover from Hades, and a dead battery sucks, but that is what friends at rallies are for - right?

Curtis, there's no sense being uncomfortable if you don't have to be. I used to do some pretty far out stuff for Uncle Sammy and many times I was frozen to the bone. I would just prefer not to be cold. If that's being wussy, then so be it but I feel I've been cold enough for one lifetime.

Those two round holes are designed to accomidate two d shackles, when connected with a bridal they are a fairly acceptable recovery point. Make sure the bar is tight though.
