Apparently there have been quite a few issues with the Jeep Liberty and it's stability. It seems that with the introduction of the new Renegade model, all new Libertys will be at least 1 1/2 inches lower in ground clearance!

Don't you just wish we NHTSA would really solve the roll over problem by making roll overs survivable and not try and guess how likely it is to roll over? I know plenty of cars that will roll very easily. I'm worried how this will affect the TJ and other's like the Disco.

I think that with certain vehichles out there survivability is already achived.
http://www.tombec.com/rover/ You will probably have to cut and paste this. I have owned CJ, YJ, TJ wranglers and a '97 Disco. I currently own a 2002 Freelander SE. I think that unfortunately there are always going to be trade offs. I miss my Disco for many reasons but I love the fact that my Freelander is so great on the highway and since my offroading is limited to about once a month I don't mind the limitations that much. Besides, the Freelander is much better in rain and snow and non rutted mud than any Jeep or even the Disco.

Wow... I'm glad no one was hurt in that. But I would hope the A-pillar is better in the D2's. I've seen Z3 roll overs where the hood and windshield were toast but the frame of the windshield was very much holding it form. I understand that a roadster is very different but take a look at the A pillar from the inside of an X5 if you get a chance to see what I'm talking about. This is what the Disco's should look like.

You know, as bad as those pictures look they are not that bad. Try doing 55mph and rolling in a Trailblazer, Tahoe, Explorer, or any other SUV out there. No thanks. I'll stick with my D1.

lol.... no kidding. I will always have that nice new loaner Blazer I got when I dropped off my D2 for service. The POS would rattle so bad I swear I could see movement in the B-pillar every time I hit a bump.

Hey.... those are my photos - taken the day after, at the impound yard it was towed to. I swear I wasn't even sore after that mess. We all went to the hostpital afterwards, but I didn't even let them check me out... I knew I was fine. All of us made it out A-Ok. We were all out of the truck & sitting on the guardrail by the time anyone (ambulance, police, firetrucks, etc) showed up.. They were like 'oh my god, who was in there???'. I told them 'we were...'. You should've seen the looks on their faces. Nobody who arrived on the scene could belive that anyone could have survived & that we weren't hurt. I got alot of 'man, you've got someone looking out for you' & 'you must have bigger things to do in life', but I think that if I hadn't been driving my Disco, and we were in the same situation, that me & my family wouldn't be here.

Now, about the a-pillar. It stopped 'crushing' less than 1" from my head, and about 2.5" from my wife's (in the front passenger seat.) I don't know how it 'should' have performed (I have heard alot of comments about how badly it did perform), but I'm thankful none-the-less that it stopped when it did.

I replaced my DI w/ a 2001 DII.
I'll trade off gas mileage for being in a tank w/ my family.

As a little funny aside.. We were coming back from the State Fair and we had our digital camera. I was trying to take photos of it upside down, but the damn camera wouldn't work (it got thrown out of the truck onto the pavement). The rescue folks really thought I was nuts for trying to take pictures of the wreck. haha

Take Care.... I'm off to the dropzone in an hour!! Whoo hoo!!

oh well, file size was to large and I don't feel like messing with it. Its a great picture of some fools that just rolled a liberty in on a trail that looks like a place no stock vehicle has any business being. If anyone knows how to decrease the size and wants to post it I will email it to you but I don't have the time to mess with it.

thanks Steve, I was looking at it again before I sent it to you and I guess it didn't actually roll over but they sure did bash it on something pretty bad.
