I was just wondering how many teenagers here are driving Disco's? I seem to only see 2 or 3 other Disco kid's on this board, are there any more? Do you get a lot of comments about your Disco? Good or bad? Do people think that you drive a $50000-$60000 car, because a lot of people think that at my "prep" school. Then I tell them that you can find 1994-95 models for under $10000, they're all looking at me with disbelief. Most people give my car a lot of positive comments. The first thing everybody comments on are the sunroofs or the fold out chairs in the back. They also always ask about off-roading. So they don't think it is complete yuppie mobile, I take them wheeling, and they are amazed at its capabilites.

I'm 17 and I drive a Range Rover. People are in total disbelief when I tell them my '89 was under 10,000. Many think I am a yuppie at first, then they see my vehicle and find out I actually go off-roading. Are any teens besides myself and Chamille going to MAR?

I am 16 and learned to drive in my Disco. Then I learned how to drive a stick in our Defender. A lot of people think that it is a lot more expensive that it really is. Mine is scratched to hell and has enough shit on it that I dont get too many yuppie comment.

i was 19 when i got mine, now i'm 20

People do love my truck from the colleges i've been too and always ask about climbing mountains.

the first thing that i tell them when they as about it is that.

I paid for it and that i put everything, i.e. suspension lift, body lift, rack , etc. on myself just to clearify that i'm not a rich snob like they may be thinking and when that is said it is more surprising to them that i paid for it. Sometimes i tell them that it was only 18k sometimes i let their minds wonder around 50 g's just for fun. LOL

but it gets plenty of excercise and when it comes back the the apartments muddy everyone turns there head more than ussual, GO FIGUIRE

Im 21 years old and a junior in college, not a teen anymore but still one of the younger ones on this board. Ive got a 98 disco with 2 inch rovertym springs, OME Shocks, ARB w/ 9K warn, some Hellas, and 235/85 BFG M/Ts on black steelies -thats about all I can afford now but I am sure more will follow. Paid for all the mods myself but im a little rich prick and got the truck from my dad :). People at school think that I am a snob untill they get to know me and discover I installed all the mods myself, beat it to hell offroad on a fairly regular basis, and then fix most of the shit myself when it breaks (done lots of parking lot repair jobs down here). But there is just no pleasing the hippie population at this school, they think my truck is a tool of satan no matter how much I use it and work on it myself.

Anyway, the general looks the truck gets around town here in Arkansas are ones of "oh my god, what has he done to that thing??", the ocasional wave or thumbs-up from a jeeper and the classic "that one of them there Land Cruisers???" from the bubbas (its always great to pull them out of the muck when you find em stuck out in the woods with their pickups, I always make sure to add a "you got pretty far for just an F150" during the conversation)

As for the 50K - 60K thing thats what everyone seems to think. I looked up the Kelly Blue book value for the thing the other day now that the 03s are out and it aint purty thats all im gonna say.

allright, im done

I am 22 and have a 97 disco and I live in Jax, Fl. Well people here just dont get it. They ask me all the time why buy such an $$$ car if I am just gonna take it in the mud and beat it up. I once got pulled over after playing in a construction area and the cop told me that its not nice to play in mommies and daddies car. But what do you expect we are young kids who love your Rovers and work our ass off to have them.

Just my 2cents

As for you Auburn guys, I might be out that way next summer I'll have to look you up. It sounds like you are lucky and have quite a few rovers around, kind of sucks here with nothing but jeeps and bubbas in pickups, but the upside is mine looks even more unique.

This thread brings up an interesting point. Used Disco's are really a great deal when you consider what you get by spending equal dollars on a used Blazer, Jeep etc. Blue book on a 97 SE is $11,500 trade and $13,500 retail with reasonable miles. Makes it more than affordable when you consider what type of 4 wheel system your getting, longevity of the truck, towing capacity etc. Taken care of with regular maintainance these will last much longer than most other 4 x 4's on the road. The big plus is that unless you know what your looking for, the uninitiated person can hardly tell a 95 from a 98.

When my daughter turns 16 in a couple of years the 95 will be relegated to daily transport to the local high school and I'll be looking for a D2. Main reason is, trade in on it at that time will be $5000 or less. What would I be able to get her for that amount that offers 4 wheel drive (daddy does not want her constantly getting whatever she drives unstuck in the Michigan snow), offers full frame (16 year old daughters tend to care more about what's on the radio than what's on the road), air bags etc. The big plus is that the 0 - 60 times are slow enough for a teen to not get over anxious at a stop light.

Let someone call her a snob at that point. It's more an example of dad being frugal.

I'm 18 and got a Series IIA when I was 16. I helped do a ground up restoration to it and drove it to school everyday for a year or so. It was so great, the looks you would get in that car were awesome. It was great on road and off. I got interested in Rover when my dad got into them in 1997. Since than I have loved them. Although the Series trucks are great I wasn't able to continue driving it for college. At the end of my junior year in high school I got a Land Rover Discovery XD. I love them despite the many negative comments people have about the XD's. I have a great time with other rover friends and the Florida Land Rover Club. I'm currently at FSU with it and have found some other guys and some great trails. My sister also has a Disco and my mom has a Disco 2. We still have the Series but it's not driven too much but is a ton of fun when we do. Our old Landcruiser has been way less hassle than the rovers, but there's nothing like a Rover

It's good to see kid's driving Disco's. There's some people on this board that I thought were a lot older, but now I know. I'm pretty much the only Disco kid in Amarillo, TX...and probably the only person obsessed with Land Rovers. There are two other Discos in town that have mod's, I met one of them once and I think I told him about the D-web. We don't have any Land Rover clubs or anything like that here. It's jeep country down here, but with the prices of Discos going down I expect to see a lot more Disco's at the local off-road hang out. We do have about 10 Defender's in town, but most are “yuppified.” My AOL screen name is: MILlie550 and my MSN messanger one is: orangefantaman

Hey y'all. I don't own a disco, but I do drive a 109 to school everyday (pending mechanical condition). I will admit, I do like the disco and my dad has one so I know it is great. My 109 gets a lot of good looks since all of those soccer mom's in their new Rangies and Discos don't know what they saw :).

Will, I will be at MAR next week. Look for a tan 109 with a green soft top. It will have an ARB on the front with a mess of lights. My license plate is "MAD MAX 3".

Come and say hi.

I'm 16 and have a Freelander. I'm the only Freelander at my school, although someone has a 2002 Disco, but she is really not into owning a Land Rover. LOL, and I'm like her stalker too, always parking next to her. There are a lot of Disco kids, especially at the private schools. Land Rovers just seem to be mostly mom mobiles around here though.

Jack, the private school brats arn't Disco kids because if you mentioned the term "Disco" around them they would start thinking Saturday Night Fever not trucks. Its ashame but if most Land Rover owners saw a series truck or Defender they probablly wouldn't know they were made by the same company, hell ive had a lady in a DII ask me if my modified D1 was a land rover too.

I did not mean to infer that all private school kids are brats, just the ones that drive rovers as status symbols instead of offroad machines as they are meant to be driven. Your gallery shows you don't fit into this category so I am not talking about you. Sorry for the confusion, and BTW I go to a private college.

Will, yep. Its a D90 bumper. It was a pain in the butt to put it on and it doesn't really fit. It had to sandwich the thing inbetween the wings. You can see for yourself what I did. Of course, now since the bumper is on, mounting my winch and lights was a breeze :).

Look for me hanging around the Thatched roof garage tent/trailer (always buying parts from them:)) and the CROC people.

P.S. I go to private school too. This is getting weird. But I'm not a prep. How many preps do you know can change a carb in 15 minutes???

19, Student at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY, Bought my 95 Disco two Years ago and I have already spent more money in mods then the price of the truck. I haven't seen a modified rover since the Killington Vermont Expedition in August. If there is anyonr in the surrounding one hundred miles, young or old, please drop me a line. And to all the ladies drivin' discos out there - Im not a prick or a prep, maybe a stoner, but what college student isn't? I spend most of my time loitering and and chalaxing (chilling/relaxing). Typical College Diet - Bud Light and Ramen. But since I'm a cook I can do some crazy shit with Ramen. So ladies, if your intrested in some wheeling, beer and seared Foie Gras on Green Apple Ramen with a drizle of Truffle Oil, drop on by the CIA!

Ahhh, Ramen noodles. My favorite recipe is Ramen noodles with salsa, almost as good as saltine crackers w/ tabasco. As for beer its hard to beat Miller High Life when you have to go cheap. Another good college recipe is Cocoa Puffs on top of pepperoni pizza, you don't want to know how much Jim Beam we had to drink to figure that one out but surprisingly it is good when you are sober as well (works best w/ dominos). No doubt you guys at the Culinary Institute come up with much tastier cheap sustenance but us mortals are doing the best we can.

Karen, you'd dig it the most...it's a platter for chips & salsa. The salsa bowl is in the middle, but it's covered with a plastic dome that retracts when you hit the button. It plays that annoying Speedy Gonzoles tune while the dome retracts for about 7 seconds and then snaps shut with authority. You stage a shot of tequila under the dome, and then you have to hit the button, down the shot, and return the empty shot glass before the dome closes. If you're too slow, you keep shooting until you get it. The chip bowl will contain plenty of vomit, thus avoiding a party-foul mess. Batteries not included. Fun for all ages.

I'm 21, student at NCSU, I've had my Disco since I was 18. I've done all sorts of mods and stuff to it, actually I'll be ripping it apart over the next few months and making a few "modifications" to it. I do remember back in HS when everyone thought I was rich, what they didn't know was I knew a LR sales guide who handles trade ins, and a fella with a whole salers liscense.

Will Bobbit, are you one of Ryan Wilcox buddies? I believe I met you at Uwharrie Safari 2002. I was the fella with the dreads.

Hey Jon,
Yeah I remember you man! I am one of Wilcox's buddies. I saw your Rover down at State a few weeks ago. I was staying with a guy in UT, and we were riding by the dirt parking lot, and I said "Hey, I've seen that Disco before!" I asked Wilcox if you went to state now and he said "Yep" So....

Hey Jon, the Series works!! Since the last Uhwarrie event I made it so it can actually wheel! I got the alternator sorted out and I put a new suspension on. It sure does flex real good and the alternator will support my winch now.

I took it up to MAR and had a blast. I trailered it, so I didn't have to worry about messing it up as much!

Check out the CROC BBS every once and a while. I sense a trail ride comming up soon and I will probably to be there.

I bought my first rover in '74 (I'm 47 now so you figure it out LOL). It was a '62 88 half cab, paid $500 for it. Needless to say, no-one ever accused me of being a snob ;-)
BTW, I still have it.
