I guess you could count me in. Not currently active, but plan to be, esp once I have sons of my own.

I was a pretty active member untill I was 14, had some fun times (especially summer camp) and learned alot about the outdoors but wound up quiting once I got into high school because I could no longer find the time to dedicate to it anymore.

Was in and out of scouts myself.

Now, my son was a Tiger Cub last year, is now starting Wolf. My wife is one of the "Official Assistant Den Mothers", lol (she elbows me when I call her that)... I try to make it to as many events as I can to give a hand w/o being "official".... like when they took the cave tour and I ended up acting as running commentary, or when we went to the aquarium, etc. etc....

like i mentioned in the previous post, i am second generation Eagle Scout, along with my brother. But i don't participate in any troop activities or pay dues anymore. when i have kids, i will be checking out the local troops and see if it will be worth it, but when i see 12 and 13 year old kids getting their Eagle nowadays, I feel a little let down.

I loved it, and hope to get my kids involved if I have any.
I did a lot of growing up, and learned SO MUCH more about life than people whe were not in.
I made it to Life, and had just a few things to do to make eagle, but got out of it because it wasn't "Cool" any more.
I still regret that.
I am thinking about getting reaquainted by becoming a leader, but don't really have the time right now to dedicate to it.

All in all, a great organization going through an unfortunate time.

Being that I'm gay I wish they would accept me for who I am but I guess it is morally unethical that I suck dick. Ohh how I wish I could be a BS the little outfit turns me on. F the boy scouts and what does it have to do with Disco's anyway if you want a serious discusson about the BS I'm sure they have their own left wing consevitived agenda web site somewhere. and if they hate gays so much why are they the "we blows"

My son just started this year he's a bear.
Pine wood derby is coming up in a couple of weeks he should kick some ass.
Left wing crap aside great organization for kids it's the parents that are pretty fucked up.

I agree Ken, I remember some pretty EXTREME parents from my scouting days, probablly the same type that now beat up baseball umpires and kill hockey coaches. They were always pushing their kids to the limit and it would get to the point were the kids didn't seem like they got a great deal of enjoyment from the experience. I was fortunate enough to have parents who laid off unless I asked for help in which case they would give me all I could ever need and it really enabled me to enjoy the experience a lot more. I'm sure the other type of parents mean well but you've just got to wonder how many of them are trying to relive their childhoods through their kids.

Since a lot of people seem to be dissecting my posts under microscope lately I thought I should also add that along with the extreme parents there were also a TON of others who were much more laid back and excellent leaders.

Hello-
My son started Cub Scouts 2 weeks ago and myself I was a Webelo for a short time. My father (who I Unfortunately never met) was an eagle scout and his whole family was really into Scouting. At the moment my son is nuts about it. He is very proud of his uniform and wears it to school on den meeting days. At first I actually did not want him to start Scouting because he plays hockey, soccer and baseball. That along with the all important school work and school day make for a very heavy schedule for an 8-year old (and me!). However he so looks forward to his meetings that it has become the "carrot" to get him to do his schoolwork. In ending, as I understand his troop is open to all American citizens regardless of their private lives. Have a nice weekend everyone!

As evil as BSA is (from this atheist's POV), quite frequently it is necessary to force discusstions back on-track. Doing something very similar was the only way I could get a solid answer about break squeal, without getting a flaming pad debate!

I was in scouts all the way from Cub Scouts (still have my uniform.... so cute.) to Eagle scout. I'm not currently active, but plan to return when I have children of my own. However, I was told, and do believe, that once and Eagle scout, always and Eagle scout. You carry certain responsibilities with you through life, to continue to live by the principals and disciplines learned in scouting.

Good to meet you at MAR Will.
