I finished installing the rear view mirror this saturday, it looks and feels great, thanks to all of you guys that posted the information about magna donelly, thanks to DISCO WEB, and of course thanks to Magna Donnelly, they really sent me the auto dimming mirror with the map lights, performance of the disco has improved a 25% (Now I can see the head lamps of the cars I leave behind in the mirror)I think braking distance is shorter too...
cheers

-Marco

Yeah, its a cool mirror isn't it? I use the map light to find the ashtray at night. No more cigar ash jammed against the coin tray!

What year Disco did you install the mirror in? I'd like to get one for my '95 but I wasn't sure if I could tap into the sunroof power.

It's a 96 It was not hard, the only thing was the removal of the headliner, it took a good two hours, to complete the job, but it was all well worth it

mine is a 97. I didn't have to remove the roofliner. I had to remove the plastic piece with the storage pockets in order to get to the wire connections. The new mirror plugged into the same connector that the old one did. If your existing mirror is auto-dimming, you should be OK

You removed the headliner?!?! I was in & out in +-10 minutes......mainly because it took me a couple of minutes to realize it was ok to push hard down on the old mirror to unclamp it. Love the map lights!!!!!!!

Did you all get a mirror from Magna Donnelly and not Land Rover? Land Rover uses a proprietary mount, and last I checked the ones from Donnelly or any other required that you take the mount off the glass risking broken glass, and use a different one that comes with the mirror. Reason I ask is I want one that has the outside temperature info on it.

Thanks,
Alan

Never mind--just read the archives. Thanks--should have done that first.

Is this the mirror that is on the 94 disco as well? I checked the archives and did not see if the 94 had the mirror or not.

I did not removed the roof liner completly, just enough to slide the conector in, otherwise it was going to be hell to try to push/pull the new conector far up enough to get it to conect with the power conector,

When I did mine, I couldn't find the old connector, so I spliced the wires. Works great, and took about a half hour.
You're right...the hardest part was trying to figure out how hard and in what direction to pull the old mirror off.

Did Magna Donnelly ask you to send your old mirror back to them?
I haven't done that yet, but am planning to just out of courtesy. What a great company!

I asked and was told, "Please don't bother sending the old one back." I guess it'd just go in the rubbish bin..........

FREE...FREE...FREE!!!!!

http://www.donnelly.com/contactus.asp

Just email them and explain what your situation is.
If that doesn't work, try calling. It takes a while for them to come in (mine was 6 mo.) but it is worth it.

Yeap, mine was 7 weeks, I e-mailed them twice but they never Emailed back, and one day after 7 weeks, the mirror was here, with no word from them.

They actually called me. Once to find out what my mirror was doing wrong, and once to tell me it was shipped

I actually told them I had the Auto dim mirror, and that I was looking for a way to fix it or have it replaced, they were just kind enough to sent me the one with the map lights, or maybe that's all they had, did you include your address? I included my name, and my full address, and year of the truck, so maybe that's why they did not call me before sending me the new one.if you didn't just email them again with that info
