hey im wondering if anyone has a link to a DIY brake pad install for a d1. I've never changed the brakes before so i'd love to find a good set of instructions. EE has one for a D2 http://www.expeditionexchange.com/disco2brakes/ how similar to the D1's is it?

p.s. who sells the OEM pads with the attached spring tensioner clip on it?

I got my OEM pads at Rover Connection (www.roverconnection.com). $50 front, $59 rear. I think EE has them available too.

The instructions for replacing pads on the D2 is the same for the D1.

Jason, you should have no problem using the DII tech article as a basis for your DI install. There are slight differences, but nothing that will significantly change the install. Seriously, I just did the brakes on my DI, and I didn't have a manual or anything. I just took the wheels off and used common sense to figure out what to do. And this was the first time I have ever touched the brakes of any vehicle. But if you do need some guidance or you have a quick question, just email me and I'll help you out. Good luck.

And I believe that the OEM pads come with the pins and clips no matter who you buy them from; they are included in the sealed box.

FWIW , clean the caliper! this simple step is not mentioned in the above link. use a wire brush or wire brush attached to an air tool. use brake cleaner to remove debris after cleaning caliper. this ensures that when the pistons are pushed back into the caliper that the dust seals do not get torn; preventing contanination from road debris causing leaking pistons.
tip: use a never seize compound around the studs and hub. this will prevent the road wheel from becoming stuck to the hub assembly!
