does anyone know where to get tire size info on these tires? Can't find it anywhere on the web. Looking at 8.25 x 16 because the 9.0 x 16 is way too big. I found some info on the 9's on EE, but thats it.

The 8.25's spec out at 34" tall. Good luck finding them.

Oh, it's XZL.

Info is really hard to find. One of my buddies is a fleet manager in the UK for a trucking company. I'm having him dig up as much info as he can and send it over. Gregs right on the money when he says good luck finding them. Even the 9.0's are pretty elusive to say the least.

Now if you could find a way of fitting 20 inch rims - they're all over the place.

Perry, if you want to step up to some 9.00's, give me a shout.

Thanks Greg, But I'm not ready for that much rubber. I'm still trying to find out the size of the 8.25's. 34 X ? They seem closer to what I'm looking for but I don't know the width. I live in Greenville SC and the Michelin plant is right here.I don't know if any empolyee's can get em' (they do give benefits on tires to there employee's). Some people have em' so it's not immpossible just difficult. The search for the Holy Grail!

Perry,

If you can get them, I'm first in line for the next 5.

8.25R16 is approx. equivalent to a 230/100-16 or 34" X 9"

But don't worry, you won't find any :-)

FWIW - if you are prone to 'sticker shock' be prepared to be shocked. Rovers North had (may still have 7.5 x 16 XZL's - $269 each or $345 mounted on steel wolf rims. That was last year so have no idea if they still have any left.

regards

Jeff

FWIW alot of folks back in the UK are using Petlas which are pretty similar to the XZL. I haven't been able to find these over in the US either.

All new XZLs are earmarked for the military. Good luck.

Perry, when I was first looking I called the Michelin plant in SC. They couldn't even find them in their system since they are not sold in N. America. They hadn't even heard of them!

And be prepared, because they are expensive. A friend of mine just sold his extra set (they were new) for $400 a tire, and it was a set of 5.

I called Michelin a few years back, and got these numbers for the stock ids:
8.25x16 = 46526
9.00x16 = 99806

Also, this is from http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/main_4x4.htm :

"If you continue to use the NUMERIC system of specification, ie. 6.50, 7.00, 9.00R16, then you need to understand that specification. The first size is width. Aspect Ratio in NUMERICS is PREDETERMINED to 92% in all sizes ending in ZERO (ie. the last ZERO in 7.50), and 80% in sizes not ending in ZERO, ie. 8.25R16. (the last FIVE in 8.25 not being ZERO)."

HTH,
Alan

I'm not sure that the XZLs conform to those specs. anymore. The new 255/100-16 XZL is stamped with both sizes (9.00R16 & 255/100-16)

x9

Here's a link with the smaller sizes listed in millimetres:

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle ... shoot. Try to share a rare gem, and go down in flames. Oh well ... thanks for the heads up.

DAMN, The price tags is enough to scare me away! I like Michelins but not that much. The trxus were $112 mounted and balanced for a 255/85/16 so I'll stick with them or BFG's. Thanks for the info everyone.
