Hi guys

I spent some time here looking to find out about installing an aftermarket stereo (head unit). I found a lot of contradictory info. I went ahead and had a local shop put mine in. Here's my story.

I went to Circuit City and Best Buy. The answer was the same at both. Bring it in back , I'm sure we can make it work. My question, "do you have the adapter to do this?"... The answer, no but maybe we can make it work. Ok. Lets see I want some guy with no education, that probably drives a Honda to see if he can "make it work" on my Disco... uhmmm, NO!

So I take it to a place that has been in business doing only car audio for over 25 years. Right away the guy says we don't have an adapter for that but let me call my supplier. They have it. Yeah!

So, I bring the Disco in and six hours later here is what I learned. The adapter works. It attaches to the stereo head's RCA outs and you retain the factory amps (one for the subs). There was a ground hum. A ground loop isolater solved the problem (sorry no details). Everything works except the dash controls. The stock head had two antennas. Reuse the "main" one.

The moral of the story is, take it to a pro.

Deck was a Pioneer DEH-1600.

Adapter was a Best Antennas & Accessories #BAA7

It also required an antenna adapter (unk)

Finished it sounds good. Some say the stock amps suck. I guess it depends on what you want, but for me I'm happy

Good luck

I did mine in the my garage. I used a Clarion 535. I identified all the speakers wires with a multimeter. Cut the factory plug and spliced the appropriate wires using the diagram that came with the new unit. The sound is excellent no hum or anything. The sub is controlled thru the unit. It was cake. I guess I am just lucky.
