We just finished a valve job on my 97 D1, and a few days later I started to notice a tapping noise. I took a piece of garden hose, and searched for the origin of the noise. It seems to be the loudest near the drivers side exhaust manifold. Could it be the exhaust manifold is cracked? I can't see any noticable cracks. All the bolts are tight. I want to know what else I can do/look for, before I remove the manifold. Matt |

Put your hand down there and see if you feel any air coming out. |

Matthew, it could also be the Exhaust manifold gasket or the gasket between the manifold and the "Y" pipe. |

Thanks guys, I made sure all the bolts were tight, and I also made sure the 3 on the "Y" pipe were tight. It still makes the noise though. I'll check this morning when I first start it if I can feel any leaks. I'll try not to burn myself Matt |

Matt DI '95... had at muffler shop this week. Have a similiar leak...could not see the origin until I was underneath the car. The weld at the flange of the pipe with the catalytic converter on it was broken. Where the pipe meets the flange NOT where the gasket is. To fix...unbolt Y-pipe from manifolds ( must be COLD) and re-weld at the flange. Had been done previously on my disco, but not good enough. Flowmaster 40's ROCK!!!! Unbelievable! |
